Slow Cranking?
Like my 2013 so much I'm looking at picking up a 2011.
It's a bit rougher than mine with 70k on it but runs well. One thing is troubling me, the car cranks slowly before it starts up. The owner says he changed the battery out but didn't recode it. Could this be the problem? And it just needs to be recoded for a new battery? Thanks! Last edited by rennwerkes; 08-17-2019 at 01:18 PM.. |

My 2011 135i experienced slow cranking. I had the battery replaced (and coded), and eventually the starter as well. Neither fixed the problem. I also noticed the door locks were a bit slow to actuate compared to my 2012.

One definitely needs to register a new battery when replacing... even if you drop in the exact battery for your car (dealer, $250 out the door, you install). Changing battery types without coding that in can be very dangerous (fire). Look for DIYs on this. Personally I've replaced the battery in my car twice (PM) and even with that it's always seemed to crank slower than I would expect.

The video was great information! Thanks!
Unfortunately the seller and I agreed on a price and I thought I'd pick the car up today. Well, the seller texted me a few hours after we agreed on the deal and told me he sold it for more. Very honorable thing to do! I guess that's how it goes on Craigslist. |

When he grounds the engine, the positive jumper leads are not connected to anything, correct?

Yes, he's using only the black leads and because just about everyone has a set so they can test their cars...
