Buying a BMW 128i
Hi ya'll,
I'm new here, I am planning on purchasing a BMW 128i, and I wanted to know all the issues it can have, and what I need to do for preventive maintenance. I currently own a 2012 VW GTI, but now I'm looking for something small naturally aspirated and fun. Thanks P.S I live in Canada |

It could have lots of issues but the only repair I've had to have done on mine is a new alternator. I have about 93,000 miles on it. You may want to look for Mike Millers maintenance guide for suggestions on maintenance. I change the oil and filter every 5,000 miles (plenty often) and have changed the transmission fluid twice, rear end once. Brake fluid is overdue at this point but has been changed a couple of times.

Well if you're an enthusiast driver you'll want a manual transmission and Sport Suspension. This really makes the car but is a very hard combination to find. For maintenance, as suggested above, Mike Miller's Lifetime Maintenance Guide, free download, is the Bible.

I have an 08 128 6MT sp pkg, just under 100K kms (not winter driven). Owned for 8 years now. My 1st "repair" was this year, valve cover gasket. Even still on original battery (thanks Battery Tender).
These cars go forever with only moderate maintenance. Issues are: 1. oil filter housing gasket (simple DIY; don't put it off) 2. valve cover gasket (replace as soon as any oil weeping/leaking) 3. water pump; these go at any time, usually between 100-140kms 4. spark plugs & coils; replace preventatively between 100-120kms |

Those ABS sensors may go wrong one day (one is already out on hers), but I think it's a relatively easy fix. I'm from MTL. |
