Anyone seen this issue after new rear brakes?

The pad doesn't seem to be making full contact with the rotor and it's happening on both sides.

All four surfaces are like that?

You need to take it apart and clean the caliper where it makes contact with the pad. Also, clean the caliper bracket where the pads make contact.

Lots of rust there on the caliper and caliper bracket. Like MightyMouseTech said above... take it ALL apart and clean the area where the "nubs" or ears of the pads sit in the bracket. I would also use(get) a new pad spring and use some pad grease on the pad's tabs where they contact the caliper bracket.

Plan on doing this today/tomorrow. Didn't expect for it to make such a big difference if I didn't clean it perfectly.

I took a look at a co-workers 328i and although his pad is making good contact there is a noticeable line the same spot as on my car. That's exactly where the caliper ends so I'm thinking this may be a pretty common issue with this caliper setup.

I'll update when I figure this out. Just hope I didn't damage anything driving around all week.

After only a week of driving, there should not be too much tapered wear on the pads. But, there will be some. This will make the brake pedal feel a little softer than normal.

After it is all cleaned perfectly and reassembled, the pad will now only be touching on the area it is currently not touching. Will take a while for the pad to make complete contact again.

There ARE solid caliper bushing kits, which advertise they eliminate the tapered wear on the pad. My buddy has been running one of them on his VW R32 for a few years and hasn't had any complaints.

Obviously clean/lube first, but some food for thought.

Clean the calipers and carrier with a wire brush and apply brake pad grease to the 'ears' of the pads. Pads should slide freely in the carrier. The photo is a bit low in resolution but it appears the pad is a bit cocked.

If that doesn't cure it and my interpretation is right then the pads could just be poorly made and not of uniform thickness
