The dealer recently replace my VC and OFH gaskets. The only indication I had was the oil was down a pint between changes. Now it stays full.

I have an extended warranty, so the cost wasn't an issue. The dealer charged BMW a bunch of money nearly two grand for the work. If I didn't have the warranty, I would have let it leak. It didn't amount to more than a minor drip.

OK looks like you have all the bases covered except for one. I did not have one of these but I could have used the piece of mind it would have given me plus not have to check the back of the gasket a million times over to make sure it did not curl up during the install which would have completely wasted my installation and money...plus these are cheap:

Is there an upgrade available?

Looks like I need to replace the VC gasket, at least... and possibly the VC itself. I would rather just pay the $$ and replace the cover at the same time. Looking around I don't easily find an upgrade available (ie. Aluminum?)

However, I did find this which does not clearly indicate its an upgrade.

Thoughts on this?

I stand corrected. I must have been thinking of the N55 cover instructions. Sorry for the confusion.
