Installed CarNaviPlayer Android Double Din

Amazing!

$488 shipped with CarPlay dongle (messed up because apparently they offer a wireless carplay option I didnt see. That would be amazing!). Ordered on Thursday, arrived on Monday.

Install was simple. 10 minutes to remove hvac and stock radio. 10 min to install new unit. All plug and play. About 90 minutes figuring out system settings, customization, and personal preferences with brightness/EQ etc.

Factory Settings password is 318 on my unit.

Overall the quality is superb. Fit and finish is great. Boot time is about 10 seconds from the time I turn on the car. BMW logo is displayed during that time.

Here are a few pics. The HVAC is not fully clipped in yet since I need to figure out where to route my USB ports. I have a feeling once I clip the new HVAC trim in place it will not come back out without breaking the clips. Once clipped in the HVAC will sit flush and look stock. The test fit was perfect.

Auto Climate control for the right trim and the CarPlay dongle. I should have went with a wireless CarPlay dongle.

Do you know how to get that wireless carplay dongle? Their website only has a dropdown for carplay with 1 choice.

Forgot to ask, do your steering wheel controls still work? Also do you have JB4 by any chance?

Steering wheel controls work and you can choose the function of the buttons. The install includes the canbus module.

I do not have JB4.

Yes, do not select the option on the head-unit page. Add the head-unit to the cart and then navigate to the accessories page. I think it is on the second page.

You may check the Android Thread at the F30 Forums, this are basicly the same units, and lots of other users than F30 are there.
Ensure to get a actual Snapdragon 625 unit, not an old PX6.

You will have to cut some plastic in the back - it does not supposed to look like that

For the ones that have not started - I strongly recommend you the Pioneer MVH-1400NEX which works with the original BMW OEM mic.

After installing:
1. Xtrons double din unit - similar to the one in this post
2. Avinusa android unit
3. Pioneer MVH1400-NEX <-- Go this way (it is cheaper and better)

After doing some research on crutchfield it states that

"The wiring harness does not have a constant power connection, so you'll need to connect your new car stereo to constant power in your vehicle.

You'll have to modify your vehicle's sub-dash to install a new car stereo.

When installing this adapter, you'll need to adjust four level controls to match the output of your new stereo to the input of the factory amp(s)."

Then it lists all the stuff you need for install and it costs $210.91. So 269+211 = $480 (if you find free shipping). Yes this is cheaper than the $488 shipped, however I want to point out the carnavi item seems easier to install as its plug and play and it keeps the HVAC low and the screen high, and it has physical buttons as well as touch screen.

I mean the pioneer unit does look flush, but to me it looks like a tablet install. (even though its not)

About Xtrons

I was not as lucky as you were. The Xtron (look exactly the same as yours) unit that i bought in amazon did have gaps on the side and on top (noticed you have the same as well) and the support team could not resolve the issue with apple carplay not working, with those units it is the wild west if uou are not lucky. The Xtrons unit did also required a constant power connection that i got from fuse box behind glovebox, not a biggie.
I was able to return it on amazon.

With the avinusa I bought black wireless adapter that works well with any android (for sale now) and that is something i can recommend for android units - they release regular updates and was reliable.

Fyi - the bmw amp works with high level and low level output so no additional messing around required

In any case, after buying all 3 options in the market - i finally went for the most reputable one, of course this just my opinion.

Enjoy your setup and congratulations.

Definitely agree with Jeespinozar on the fit and finish of his install. The OEM mic compatibility of aftermarket units has always kept me from going this route though (not a fan of the tacky little aux mic you have to stick somewhere).

Can you shed some light on how to wire so that the OEM mic functions with the Pioneer MVH-1400NEX head unit?

OP: Congrats on the install! Looks good!

Interested in more opinions on this system. About to buy a 2010 128i with the base audio and will need to update that. I like the look of this system over the Xtrons, but the Belsee is nearly identical.

Does anyone know what you do with the convertible, top controls if using a system like this? Is it built into the software?

I have the same question! Lots of these units out there, and I am really interested, but haven't seen one yet that has provision for those two buttons.

I have been looking hard at these for my E88 as well. Mostly the 10.25" top dash (cut a hole) are an option as the factory plate is not changed (are $450+) - but I also am leaning to the 9" ones - they appear to move down the climate control and have a provsion for the convertible top (and heated seats) buttons on the chin portion. See the pics below:

Look for the Chin bump highlighted below - I think that means it has this feature.

This is the one I thinking of getting from here (the F3 model):
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005...c00WCiUWW&mp=1

More pics:

Obviously there are many many different specifications - I chose the one I did as I will be using android auto mostly (want it built in), I want a AHD high res rear view camera to be able to be used (buy separately), The HD display (1280 x 720) to see the nice rear cam, The dynamic parking lines (which I now believe works on any of these with the Can Bus integration (necessary for the steering wheel controls (crossing my fingers here)), 8 core, android 10, at least 2 GB or RAM (this has 3 GB), and a cooling fan. The final cost will be about $235.03 plus $25 ahd rear handle camera from here (only need the 720p version as 1080P would be a waste on the screen): https://www.aliexpress.com/item/3286...c00YKYIeN&mp=1

Should get here in about 2 weeks via DHL - there are other cheaper options that will take up to 6 weeks to get...

Good luck!

Syclone, I am looking at how to install carplay in a 2009 E88 without idrive - it looks like you were trying to do something similar, so I am curious how this installation went for you and if you were able to get a correct fit for the convertible controls?
