Dinan S3 on BAT
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/2011-bmw-1m-66/
Been watching this because the mods & mileage are right on par with mine. It's at 35k right now, so I'm curious to see if it will shoot up at the end, or be the deal of the century. Even though I agree that stock will hold its value better, the Dinan mods really make this car even more fun to drive, and in the end I would pick improved driving experience over collector value. thoughts? |

So I'm not really sure about "improving" it when part of the secret sauce is the fact that the 1M magic is that it's not as refined. The 1M is what Ricky Bobby would drive in a BMW sponsored race and Jean Girard would drive the S3. : ) Don't get me wrong. I think Dinan probably made the best all around tuned 1M but I wonder if with the more balanced suspension if you end up with a better track capable car that takes the drama out of corners and requires more speed to get the same thrill you get at a lower speed. So I can't fault someone to want to "improve" their 1M. Just saying Cindy Crawford with mole and Kate Upton with a few extra pounds were perfect. |

Yes seems pretty cheap for a SoCal 1M. I don't think the modifications hurt the price much, if any, but they don't appear to have added a cent of value either.
Someone got a great deal, congrats to the new owner. On a related topic, there was some discussion about the mismatched tires which seemed a little strange considering the car and all the expense to modify it. I'm also in the market for an old E46 and I'm constantly reminded that when looking at car to buy, the absence of information makes small details seem bigger as you try to figure out how a car was cared for. I wonder if this also turned off a few potential bidders. |

Yea I think the "you buy the owner" played a part here...mismatched tires are weird...if you are a super detail oriented owner, I doubt you would ever do that =)
Either way, I think that was a great value for someone who wanted a 1m to drive and not collect.
