I have the rogue engineering rubber transmission mounts. Elected to put these in last fall, and did feel a small improvement in day to day driving and was satisfied. They transmit a *tiny* amount of extra NVH, a tad more clutch chatter, but overall I was happy with the upgrade.
Now - had a recent track day, and still experienced the 2nd gear downshift lockout. I need to have the mounts inspected to make sure they have not shifted under load which is causing the issues or worse torn. They were noticeably tougher rubber than the stock mounts which were like putty. Have thought about other options but at this point want to get them inspected before I replace them yet again and going up to 70a durometer mounts will definitely increase a bit of NVH which I don't want in my daily driver. So YMMV and it depends on what your priorities are. |

One more thought to add - Rogue does say that even after upgrading the transmission mounts a lot of the drivetrain movement is in the motor mounts and you truly can't get full benefit from just the transmission mounts until you also do motor mounts.
There was a vendor making all rubber upgraded engine mounts...034 motorsports, was on ECS tuning I believe. Have started to think about those.... |

I ended up going with the Rogue Engineering transmission mounts. I will post my thoughts/reviews once they are installed.

Well, I did these poly mounts today and I rather like them. For me, the increase in NVH was extremely minimal and subtle. The time when I hear it the most is when accelerating hard; I hear a bit more engine noise transmitted to the cabin. I rather like it. As I said however, it's extremely subtle. I've only driven the car for 30 min. or so, but these are initial impressions.
In terms of shifting improvement, there is a noticeable effect. I was running the E46 M3 mounts before the swap, and I'd say the improvement is about equal to the change from stock to the M3 mounts, so, a bit pricey at $70, but a worthwhile (to me) and noticeable effect. I really think the increase in NVH is related to how the mounts are actually installed, so perhaps that warrants a brief descrip of my install method: 1) Get car in the air and and remove the (tiny) rear and middle under trays. No need to remove the front. 2) With the trans exposed, place your jack under the protruding lug on the bottom (sorry no pic) of the trans toward the rear. Should be obvious; it's the largest and points straight down about 2-3". 3) Jack until the jack pad barely contacts the lug, then give it another partial pump until you can see the barest whisker of upward movement - perhaps a half mm or less. You are SUPPORTING the trans only, and the goal is to leave it in the exact position it was in with the lower alum brace installed. 4) Remove the top two mount nuts and the lower four brace bolts, pull the brace backward to disengage, then take it to your workbench. 5) On the bench, remove the old mounts, position and mount the new ones and torque the lower mounting nuts. 6) Get back under the car and slide the two mount studs forward into the two trans brackets opposite from the way you removed them. 7) Start the four brace mounting bolts and get them finger tight, then slide the brace around until the bolt heads and washers are exactly centered in the depressions in the brace. Torque them in a circular fashion. 8) Lower the jack and remove, so that the trans is fully resting on the mounts\brace, then tighten the top mount nuts. This ensures that the trans\brace\mounts don't move around and no stress is introduced during the replacement. Overall, I'd recommend these over the M3 mounts if you can get over the price, ianc

Hey I want to upgrade my transmission mounts and was wondering if I'm keeping the motor mounts stock for now (want to upgrade later down the road) would it be safe for me to get rouge engineering 55a mounts? I don't mind the vibrations just want to make sure they aren't too stiff for the stock motor mounts

Going super hardcore on the trans mounts (80A, 90A+) and retaining stock engine mounts is asking for problems. Ask the E46 M3 community.

Hmm... That kinda makes sense now that I think about it...
Are you saying I've gotta to get rid of these beautifully stiff ECS trans mounts dammit?! ianc |

Sorry if this has been answered, but do we know the approx. durometer rating on the E46 M3 mounts?

I recently had the M3 mounts installed and now I have a definite noise (thud? clunk? shudder?) when the clutch is depressed and the car is in motion. Nothing when the car is not moving. I read through this thread and nobody else seems to have this issue. I guess I could live with it but was wondering if it a symptom of something else and it has just been magnified by the stiffer mounts? Comments?

Some more NVH will occur with the M mounts... but I think your trans is just putting some pre-stress torque on your new mounts. Dackel

Posting for others who stumble here. I have a 135is and installed the M3 mounts and the NVH steadily increased (worse when cold) and amplified what the normal trans/flywheel etc chatter is to a point that I thought something was wrong. Others have described this as a bolt or marble rolling around in a tin can. Especially prominent after shifts in 1-2 even 3rd and coasting. While I definitely installed right and settled the engine/trans by turned the car on/off with the trans mount loose (the brace was perfectly aligned by looking at the wear marks) the only thing that got rid of this was switching back to the original mounts. There is a marked improvement in shift feel using the M3 mounts, but since it is just a street car I couldn't handle the NVH tradeoff.
