iDrive controller swap out

When swapping out an iDrive controller, is it a plug/play situation? The stickers on back of units are not identical but units look identical. And … I would have already tested, but the damn 4-pin wiring harness plug doesn’t want to unplug from the existing controller. I am not sure if there is a little piece that needs to be depressed or not, and I do not want to break it. If there is a clip that needs to be pressed for removal, it’s hidden. Any advice appreciated
I’m not in a hurry, and my existing controller works fine. This is a cosmetic swap

Cool. Seemed like it should be that way but didn't want to try and advise it if I'd never even seen the back side of it.
