Valve train ticking/tapping noise
Hi all,
Didn't notice this until recently, but I noticed that there is a pronounced ticking/tapping noise from my N52 engine's valve train. Is this something to be concerned about? I'm not seeing any diagnostic codes from my OBD2 tool. Thanks in advance.

Seems like the ticking/tapping is more prominent when the engine is cold. After a long drive and the engine is up to temperature, it's not nearly as noticeable.

I assume that's the valve lifter noise, which is a design flaw. Nothing much you can do about it.
There is also a slower ticking sound coming from the automatic transmission fluid heat exchange/cooler (left side for LHD cars) which is entirely normal due to pulsating fluid pressure as I was told. |
