135i that spend 2 years in NJ...should I worry about rust?
Looking at buying a 135i that spent 2 years in NJ, then most of the rest of the time in TN. Should I worry about rust? I'm just leery of anything that's spent time up north ;-0.

I bought a 135 that spent many years in CT. I bought it sight unseen. It was literally rust free from underneath and on the body.
My 2011 535 and 2012 X3 both are Midwest cars their entire lives. No rust on either of them. |

I'm the original CT owner of my 2012 and it has no rust.
Then again I don't drive it in the snow.

2 years? No, you should not be concerned. I live in Iowa where road salt is king. The car should be just fine for that amount of time.

NJ outside car here, driven year round since purchase in 09, the car has very little rust underneath. My old nissan was a nightmare to work on as everything was rusting out in about the same amount of time.

This for any seaside car
Personally, I'm more worried about Southern Florida cars because the constant heat and humidity can cause stinky mildew in a car.

Had a NJ driven Subaru years ago with pistons sized in the caliper from rust, not to mention a suspension that was practically impossible to work on without snapping/stripping bolts. |

My 328i has lived in Maine from new (much worse than NJ), but I only drove it in winter the first two years I owned it. The only rust is the various screws that hold the underbody panels on. I bought a bag of new ones to replace them, just need one of those 'round tuits' to get it up on my lift and do it. It's major service time again, so probably next week while I am on vacation and draining all the fluids anyway.
The only other real issue is that even though the car was only driven in winter for two years, the lingering sand on the roads has pitted the headlights pretty good, though they have zero clouding (always garaged). My 128i was a Texas and now Florida car, and the headlights are all but pit free, as is the original windshield. The windshield on the 328i was getting pretty badly pitted, but a few years ago it cracked while in winter storage so it got replaced at the dealer (very glad I have good insurance, THAT was not cheap, but you can't tell it was replaced). Perfect now! I guess one further issue is that the salt the 328i did see caused all of the aluminum bits to have surface corrosion. But that is purely cosmetic. But the 128i looks nicer under the hood because of the lack of that. I just keep the hood shut.
