Rear seat cover removal?
Hi everyone,
New member, just picked up a 2011 135i last week and I love it. White on black, 34K miles and the interior is ALMOST mint.... There is one issue on the back seat, where the stitching on the leather broke and is slowly unraveling. I was going to look at taking off the seat cover to flip this inside out and repair the stitching, but now I see there is no zipper or velcro holding the cover on. I did try searching the forum, but I don't see this being discussed, not sure how to go about removing the seat cover, or the black fabric panel on the seat. Anyone familiar with this? Thanks |

Ok, after some trial and error, I found that the leather is held on around the outside edge with some black plastic c-channel that interfaces with the metal frame of the seat-back. Got the 3 edges undone, down to the hinges which is enough for me to get to the inside of the cushion near the top. Luckily I don't have to remove it anymore than this, or mess with any "hog clips". Now I just have to do some stitching and hopefully it goes back together somewhat easily!

I have the same problem with the driver's side rear seat back. Google finds lots of videos on how to resew the seam without removing the cover. I might give that a try.

Same as me. I started on the top-right (between the headrest and the seatbelt when the seat is upright), pried up a corner of that plastic c-channel, and then once you can get a finger under it, you can slide under it the rest of the way. Then did the top and then the left edge the same way. Carefully worked the leather off of the top-right corner, without damaging that corner stitching. Then you have some slack, shift the cover over and the top-left is easier. Figured out the black plastic rings that the headrest slides into, you can get a finger nail under one of the small tabs, then it comes right off. The actual " black tubes" that go down into the seat stay on, there's enough wiggle room that the leather can stretch over it and off.
If you need to go further than that and mess with hog clips, or take the whole seat-back off.... good luck! |
