I think terms like "Ghetto" and "riced out" mean different things to others. Where in this forum/context, they are pretty negative, but if you went up to one of those guys and told them their car was "ghetto" they may be happy. You know, there's the whole "ghetto fab" thing going on now, H2's on 26's.

I once had a student (I'm a college prof) come up and tell me how "chinked out" his car was. I was totally confused, is that good or bad(?). Can you say "chinked out"(?). To him, it was good and yes, he was asian.

It does pain me to see what some have done with their cars, but to each his own. There seems to be some guys out there who feel the same way about me debadging my car.

I look at it as entertainment, nice to have a laugh when they come past.

What often confuses me is how people take these terribly old and cheap cars (often rusting out) and put rims that cost a couple grand on them. The rims cost more than the car (probably weigh more than the car too), then they go around showing off. I'm embarassed to even sit at a light next to these people, I couldn't imagine riding in the car.

Overall it comes down to a lack of style. Some people just have style in how they live. It doesn't even necessarily have to be class; I've seen some really well done Civic's, but those are few and far between and the overall 'car culture' seems to just suffer lack style lately. It's become about big wings, loud exhaust and who has the most 'bling'. They don't care what car it is, it just has to be more outragous than the next guy. I think we should round these kids up and make them sit through a few design classes.

I think Boyd is a bit on the predictable, and conservative side of things.

If I was going to go all out and have a 'pro' do a car, I'd definite go with Foose. The man does amazing work. Imagine if he did a new 3 series.

Ooh, I'll bet it would be pretty interesting.

I've also lost respect for Boyd when he put his shop monkeys on TV, I wouldn't let most of them touch my car.

Boyd also lost 50% of his quality staff for setting unrealistic time constraints and just over all being an a$$hole. Where did Charlie and all of his painting staff go, yep to Foose. There is one person I would let have my car to do whatever he wanted to it, and that would be Foose. Boyd's just an angry old man to set in his ways to try anything new.

Spinners

I live in Atlanta, GA and the big thing in the hood is to
"pimp your ride". I have seen brand new Escalades and alike with
single and now double spinners. It will not be long before I see on on a 3006 BMW. I dirve a BMW due to I have a love to drive and build cars. In Atlatna 90 percent of the people who in the getto take the Merecedes route. I am glad for that. I considered buying my wife a
Chrysler 300C due to we need a lot of room for the family. There are
so many brand new "pimped out" 300cs in Atlatna I never even drove one. Mercedes is has been going dow hill the past 10 years and the folks in the hood do not read that Mercedes has turned to crap. When I was in Amsterdam the taxis were Mercedes and BMW was the real deal.

P.S. I have a side note question:
1) What projectior unit is in the 3006 330i? The bulb is D1S?
2) There is not much blue at the cut-off. Will the color shift add
blue to the cut off? If so how much? I have 60 hours on them and
the blue has increased enought to notice but the wall shots look nothing like the the honda s2000 or Accura TLs. Does it take time for the TLs to color shif or are they blue the day you drive off the lot.

Alright, I didn't mean "ghetto" in the sense of a class of people, area where anyone lives or such. I also didn't mean the group of people who put 22" chrome spinners on the SUV's either.

The E36 I saw was upgraded for performance, no doubt. It didn't have the look of the cars in the links provided above. I simply didn't appreciate the "drive-by" and attributed that to a 'kid" mentality. If we were at a stoplight, he would want to race no doubt.

I now realize I need to be 100% PC on this forum as I may have offended more than one member with my term of "ghetto" and "rice". I should've used the term immature or similiar. I just had no idea that I had to walk on eggshells for fear of offending anyone whith such a simple post, too bad. I AM SORRY.

I think Ghetto and Rice are fair, accurate and universally used terms... I wouldn't be sorry.

we are all just having fun

Petercat,

I ment no discrespect for anyone. People of all walks of life
like to add their own personal effects to their cars feel special. The
2006 is the first nice car I have ever had. Peope in my hood now
call me the "snob driver". I am sure the web sites for rice burners and
piped up rides have fun joking about us. I bet I am the person who
Drives a new BMW and drinks Steal Reserve 211 beer.

Also Petercat....

1) I am going paint my 2006 330i pink.
2) Paint my some white walls on my run flats (no white wall run flats)
3) Add gold double spinner rims,
4) Put a large wing on the turnk.
5) Intall a tin can exust from one of my use 211 cans.

I will then park my car right next to Petercats BMW !

Right now....my ride is considered "ghetto."

Once I get an exhaust system in....it will be a "rice-boy."

I don't understand why you would think I was offended. I don't think anyone was being disrespectful either.

My statements were simply to defend HRC's use of the terms "ghetto" and "rice" as well as let others know that some people actually appreciate their cars being called those terms. You ever see a honda with a "Got Rice?" bumper sticker, I've seen a few. Also, like I stated, my student liked to refer to his car as "chinked out", something I would never say, but was cool with him.

I certainly do not want to be percieved as MR. PC, because it's far from the truth.

I welcome your mods... It's your car, turn it into your dream. I'll choose more modest mods for mine though.

BTW, don't forget the shag headliner and fuzzy dice either.

Mea culpa, no guilt trips intended. I am paranoid about this awesome list turning sour if we get into culture wars rather than sticking with the engineering.
