Android headunit options
We're picking up a 2008 135i this weekend, and I'm researching head units (this has the base audio, and no idrive screen).
I know a lot of these units come out of the same factory, but there is variation of specs (2G RAM vs 4G), OS (Android 10,11,12,13) etc. What are folks using that they like? I know in the e46 world the Eonon units are popular and that's what is in my e46 convertible, but it seems Eonon doesn't make one for the E82 though really it's just finding the right bracket I bet. Some examples: Example 1 Example 2 |

I'll link to the one we purchased later, it's a Hizpo unit.
The submodel is S8: S8-8G 128G-8core-4GA We have it installed, Canbus box is working (so steering controls etc work) but only after connecting to wifi and updating software. We did have to trim the AC panel as others have noted. Before we button it up, there are two issues. 1) A bit of hissing noise, most noticeable if you pause whatever you are playing, then you can hear the noise in the background. 2) Weird beeping noises when turning the car on and off or opening the door. I think 1) can be solved by a noise filter on the power line, but that leads me to problem 2 - I've read that in most cases you need to run a separate fused 12v line to the radio for constant power. I think this would be the one to put the noise filter on, but hoping someone has BTDT? Last edited by danix; 01-17-2024 at 07:39 PM.. Reason: links |

Both problems persist. The beeping is more annoying than the hiss. The seller had us switch the model of the canbus box in the settings but it didn't change anything.
Key in, start car, canbus box starts beeping. Turn off car, canbus box beeping. Any suggestions are welcome. At this point may have to consider something else or figure out how to disable the speaker in the canbus box. |

Vendor says my canbus box is bad and is replacing it. I'm not so sure.
My radio harness has no extra power wire, unlike the ones I've read about. I have also read about the head feeding 12v back into the canbus and needing to move the small yellow wire that goes to the canbus box. I wish the vendor were more responsive or that there were more E82s with these out there (I've also searched E90 and F80 threads...) |

I just got a headunit from MotivSupply and everything went pretty sooth with the install. The rear brackets didn't align properly so I only ended up using the front brackets and then double sided tape for the read... it came out pretty good. What I will say is that android auto is super laggy and inconsistent. Don't know if it's because I installed the wifi and GPS under the trim of the headunit or what... but its pretty annoying.
