128i - harness above engine, plastic clip mounts
Somehow, the three mounts that hold the wiring harness (above the motor) in place have broken, see pictures. What do I need to do to fix this? Plastic gets brittle w heat

I don't know for sure without seeing it in person or looking at my car and I'm a bit too lazy to do that rn.
I think you either need 12527532268 or 12527534161. I could be wrong, double check realoem diagrams (i found these under Engine Electrical System).

I think this might be the lower part of the cabin microfilter compartment, part #2 on this page: https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=64_1428
I also have the driver's side tabs broken off, and the center is not held up very solidly, either. A fragile part that isn't inexpensive. Good luck.

I've been thinking maybe a drill and some push-pin rivets like the trunk linings use?

My cabin air filter cover tabs were very brittle and I snapped both front tabs off when I tightened them down one time. A replacement cover wasn't too expensive. As mkeiser said, you probably just need the perch which is only around $30. Considering you need to pull that harness almost any time you do something under the hood, I would fix it properly.

No, it looks like they should - but look about 3/4" to the right of your arrows and you'll see where they are supposed to slide/clip in to the little box shaped pieces (the left hand box is broken / bottom broken off)

(I have the same problem and it is in my saved items on FCP Euro for sometime when I have something approximating disposable income)

@Donkeyshins Yes, I ordered one yesterday from Dealership using CCA discount 85$ - painful, because I know I didn't break them

Yeah, they just weren't designed to last more than 10 years given the heat soak from the engine. At least it is exponentially easier to replace than the partially-soy-based-insulated wiring in E46 LCI headlights, just spendy.

When I purchased my 128i the previous owner had ziptied them together. It was the bottom receiving clips that had snapped off. I ended up ordering a new one off Ebay. I have the Vanos recall at the stealership next month and I'll be shocked if they don't break them again. I'm also positive they'll deny it.

I just drilled a hole through from the top side and riveted the old cable holder into place, now when you remove the cowl you just open up the cable tray and leave the cables loose on top of the engine.
Really don’t need to keep the cable inside the tray when you remove the cowl. |

I didn't take a beforehand picture. I was replacing the original 12 year old plugs and bought the new piece before reinstalling.
