2013 128i ccv no vacuum
Hola 1ers. Does anyone know how much vacuum should be in ccv without fancy testing equipment? Brand new valve cover I can barely feel any vacuum when I remove the oil cap. When I disconnect the vacuum hose from the back of the valve cover, I have vacuum but it’s barely any too. This is at engine idle.

With the oil cap off. If I give it some throttle, there is definitely some positive air pressure blowing out of the oil cap. N52N engine. Breather goes to bottom of IM. But there is no canister there.

Hmm, I don't think you would feel much vacuum with the oil cap off but admittedly I have not tried that. The valvetronic system helps to eliminate vacuum lines on the N52, so I would assume we can't feel the vacuum like on other cars.

Thanks. My local shop told me about the paper test. No. Not fancy scientific. But it works. At idle, remove oil cap and hold a sheet of paper there. Should not suck In or blow paper off. Works for me. Not impressed with these cars whatsoever. I’ll take my e46 any day with 830,000 miles. After all that work for the valve cover there was engine vibration and no crank no start intermittent with no codes. Ground strap driver side engine to frame was badly rotted. And all four bolts from right side engine mount to engine block were sheared off. That was a fun job. Sheesh! Oh and 43 dollars for the four bolts for mounting plate to block. Gotta love the stealership. Gotta toot my horn got all four sheared bolts out with patience and several punches and a hammer. Didn’t touch the subframe.

I will debate anyone M52tu is best longest lasting engine bmw ever built. That’s my engine. But I must say, e46 has all its own nightmares, I.e. subframe separation, rust. I was just venting in the last post. They all got issues!

Indeed. And this will not get better unfortunately. We can reasonably expect lower and lower quality with nearly all consumer products moving forward, but especially in the car manufacturing arena, as brands struggle to maintain yearly increased profits in an increasingly inflationary world. Something has to give, and it's not going to be the cost of the car, so quality takes a hit. We reached peak quality/cost balance at some point in the past and its now clearly on the decline. But like all issues of quality in the products we buy; it will get exactly as bad as the consumer allows. For the record I have no issue per se with the N52. It has its quirks but as you mentioned they all do.

plastic caps on them shaped to form to the head where they sit like little cups. One of those caps broke off. I used Jb plastic welder epoxy to glue it back on. If that cap fell off, will it cause the his problem I’m having? I do get a check engine light but it goes away.

No battery was shot thanks for asking. Tried the mitzone metal valve cover it’s a POS the valvetronic motor mount screws don’t line up on it. It’s a known issue. Now smoke pouring out of CCV cap after car driven awhile. Gotta do valve cover all over again. Gonna try the plastic mitzone valve cover this time.
