Curb Weight
Curb weight is calculated a full tank of gasoline, no passengers and no cargo.....so, the fellow who initially calculated ~3200lbs is correct. 3274 lbs....
Making this ONE SWEET RIDE! |

I'm 100000% in your corner. I'm looking for something to complement my Z4M; & if this car isn't ~3200lb or less I'm done with it. |

Base on your calculation the weight of the 135i will be at 3274 but applying the same method to 335i it will put 335i some where in the same ball park as well. In fact 335i will probably have a advantage because it has a bigger gas tank. Therefore, a slightly larger portion of its 1600kg unladen weight comes from gas, but not its true mass. This will narrow the mass gap between the 1 and 3s. What's even more shocking and might annoy 335i driver is the UK 530i weights only 5kg, at 1605kg, more than the 335i. On BMW NA website the weight difference between 535i and 335i is around 80lbs just like the weight difference between 335i and 135i. If your calculation is correct then the true weight of 135i is 3274lb, 335i 3354lbs and the 535i is 3434lbs. |

Car & Driver weighed their 335i coupe for the Lightning lap around 3360lbs, so that seems about right. I think somebody else said (not sure which forum) that as the model line goes up, BMW puts more money into lighter weigh materials. It makes sense and the relatively minute weight differences despite size differences seem to back that up.

BMW quote the 335i as 1,600Kg (with manual transmission) and the 135i as 1,560Kg.
It means that the 135i is 40Kg lighter - simple as that - no matter what destination country (any changes for specific country will be applied across the range, with a similar effect on weight). BMW purposely made the 135i heavier at the rear in order to maintain a 50:50 weight distribution. The bottom line is that the 135i will be a lighter, faster, cheaper car than the 335i (135i will probably de-value faster too). |

I wonder what options will be available in the US? For example, I'd love to get the Monaco Blue or Anthracite Network cloth interior and the full-on nav / iDrive delete option...
And is anyone else hoping that it'll be possible in 2-3 years to get an aftermarket Quaife LSD for the 1-series? |

The only issue I see with an aftermarket LSD diff is the bit regarding the 'double helical ball bearing' gears in the diff that promote lower temps and less gear lube subsequently. That's hidden somewhere in the press release. If that's the same diff as the 335i - then Quaife it is!!
