You know - looking at pricing of some of the existing competition for the 128i - I suspect that $25K to $26K will get a base stripper 128i. For instance the Volvo C30 comes in base/stripped at just over $23K - I can see a premium for the roundel and rear wheel drive being tacked onto that (a 10% bump) which would bring you into that range.
I fully expect that optioning out a 128i (if the options are ala carte - like Volvo seems to do) will put a well optioned 128i into the mid $30s. Can you option out a 128 beyond the base price of a 135? You betcha - hell I just went to the BMW USA site and built a 328i coupe with a list price of over $52K!! (Went stark raving crazy on the options sheet). I also built a 335i Coupe with Sports Package and standard color/leatherette - it comes in at $42,675 with delivery. Figure the 135i has a sport package standard (hence the inclusion in the 335i I priced) and mulitply the 335i price by anywhere from 82 to 85% and I think you'll end up with a decent guesstimate for a 135i. YMMV |

25-26k sounds good to me too...I know a guy who got a 6 series when they first came out for invoice..so I wouldn't bet on paying a premium. 2009 is a little dramatic if you don't have a deposit down

Yup, I agree — more like $28,000 to $29,000 for a 128i.

I'm kinda hoping for 27k for the 128i. Some people are paying invoice for the 328i sedan. Thats 30k. Some people would rather pay the 29k for a sedan than pay the same amount for a smaller coupe which will probably have less features. Obviously, i'm referring to the non-enthuthiasts here.

I think the pricing will be about 27,500..BMW is pretty good about negotiating, I wont take anything above 500 over invoice. I know many people have gotten that when the E90's came out with a new body style.

If the 128 is under 29k for the base, ill probaly be getting one! Im totally new to BMW, ive done tons of research on all its competitors, Infiniti, Lexus, Audi. But when i saw the 1 series i loved the design. And hopefully with a base price under 30k its a sweet deal!

I can't imagine the 128i starting much below $30K. Let's be realistic. If they make the 128i too much of a bargain, they're going to start poaching sales from the 328i coupe which starts at $35,300. Yes, the 328i is a bigger car with more standard features, but there's not a huge difference between the two vehicles.

I am going to stop guessing what the 1 series is going to cost, when they want us to know , we will given the info. There is one thing I'm almost certain on, is with the popularity of this model, anyone that thinks they will get these cars discounted when they are first released is dreaming. There might be some good deals out there, but given the history of car manufactures, if they have a hot model, they will get every penny they can out of it, while the popularity lasts. I would expect to pay full or close to full sticker price, until the market needs are met.

Yes, there will be a spread between the 128i and the 328i to differentiate the two. It's just not going to be a spread of $8K or $9K. That's just wishful thinking. $4K-$5K is realistic, which would put the 128i at around $30K.

128i...30K...I think not...Why would it start so high?? Most people would just say screw the 1 series and go for the 328i sedan!

Does anyone know if the dealers will allow you to custom order or will they pretty much shove what they get down the throat? I am not big into options such as iDrive, bluetooth, iPod connection, satellite radio and so on. More importantly, do you think they will put premium on them?
