Lowering question for you BMW guys
i have lowered 2 previous cars on springs only and had to equip my Acura with an adjustable Ingalls camber kit. Do you think if the 1er is lowered with springs only a camber kit will be needed? i am talking about a slight drop.

Technically, you should match the springs and shocks due to the reduction of travel, but if you're doing something minor, like the H&R sports springs, you should be fine.

If your going to get springs and shocks, just get a coilover setup. But if you just want springs, get the pro-kit Eibachs, they R&D the pro-kits to work with stock shocks.

you don't need coil overs. a nice set of shocks and springs is perfect. and you should never just get springs, the stock shocks are too week not to mention you lose travel with short springs and stock shocks.
now a nice matched set like this wouldn't be a bad idea: http://www.turnermotorsport.com/html...UCT_ID=31016-4 |

go with the H&R cupkit for something minor. or you can run H&R sports springs with stock shocks, no problem

^^ all depends on what you want the outcome to be, how much adjustibility you desire (control over the outcome), and how much you're willing to loose (I meant to say spend!).
I'll never do springs only again. For what? I've finally decided to do the suspension in stages. I've corresponded a bit with H&R and I think I'll try their front and rear matching ARBs (27mm F and 20mm R) first and evaluate the need for coilovers. If I don't get the feedback and confidence I desire in hard cornering and high speed stability then I'll go with KW coilovers. H&R ARBs are a mount and forget item. No maintenance ever required and they do make a huge difference. I had them on my MINI S and what a dramatic difference they made (as in positive feedback and confidence entering corners).

If you're only going for looks, then that's one story.
If you want handling, you'll need to replaces shocks along with the springs, or you'll be in for a sloppy ride.

I personally will be going with either KW or Ground Control coilovers

do you all really think H&R sports or pro kit eibachs paired with the stock shocks would have a bad ride? wouldn't it still help handling rather than hurt it?

Leave it stock, DON'T lower it. I have done this, and sure it looks better and MIGHT handle a little better, but the ride is RIUNED. I WILL NEVER lower a car again. Also when you try to sell it, GOOD LUCK. A VERY small group who want a molelested car. I did it to my 07 Acura TL-S and it was a waste of money. BUT it looked better, (who cares)

I disagree as well. I have had 3 different cars all on coilovers. If the spring rate is picked carefully it will be a better in comfort and handling. On my RX7 I have coilovers and i replaced every bushing with full spherical metal, that car rides better on the street than either of my roommates E46 M3 or Sti Poor rides on coilovers come from mismatched spring rates and not properly tuned shocks to spring combo's. Or drivers cranking the stiffness all the way up.
