curious about ambiance lighting
Hey everyone, I want to say hello as I'm the newest kid on the block here. Planning on purchasing the 135i as soon as I can see the various color swatches at the dealership. I have a question that is kind of specific and hoping you guys can answer it. Is it possible to get the ambient lighting that runs along the door sill, without having to spend 3300 dollars on the Prem. Pack that it's a part of? That's the only feature I really want out of the Prem Pack, but if I can't get it as a stand alone I'm gonna have to pass on it.

No pictures of it in a 1 series but if you go to this link and click Ambient Lighting in the index you can see an example.

Don't know. My Explorer has something similar. I guess it's 'exterior' ambient lighting. The 135i I test drove didn't have ambient lighting so I couldn't say if it was exterior as well as interior.

I think we've established that ambient lighting is strictly interior lighting. The puddle lights in the door handles are available in most markets on the 1 Series, but not in the USA. |

So no ambient lighting on the doors? What ambient lighting are they referring to in the premium package then? I could've sworn it said it would include the lights on the door on something I read.

Same.
I have my 135i. It's got premium, and no ambient lighting whatsoever really, just the "open the door and flash lights come on" which is pretty standard. |

Ambiance lighting in the door panels is only on 3 series coupes. It was introduced on those models and has not been introduced on the 1 series or 3 series 4-doors. On the 1 series, I believe ambiance lighting means the red lights in the overhead console that cast a glow on the center console, the puddle lights and, possibly, footwell lighting.

So, I realize that people with the ZPP don't have the ambient lighting along the doors. I wonder, then, if the attached picture is just an attempt to wind me up or what? It's a recent snapshot of my order, scheduled to start production next week. I've seen window stickers on stateside cars and they don't even list ambient lighting under ZPP. This is through military sales.
