135 vs 335
Excerpt from edmunds.com
"Lead Senior Editor Ed Hellwig says: I would find it hard to buy a BMW 135i. Don't get me wrong, it's a brilliant package — one of the best BMWs I've driven in some time. It's fast in a straight line, rips corners and is nicely finished throughout. More importantly, there's never any sense from behind the wheel that it's somehow a lesser BMW. All the materials are high quality, it seems as solid as a 7 Series and the interior feels spacious despite the small exterior dimensions. In fact, its size is often a plus when it comes to squeezing into traffic or tight parking spaces. So why would I hesitate? Because the BMW 335i coupe is only $5,000 more. Yeah, that's not exactly chump change, but if you can afford $35K for a car, is $40K really that much of a stretch? Maybe, but I would make it. For the extra $5 grand I would get a coupe that's not only better-looking, it would lack the stigma of being BMW's "entry-level" car. Sure, the 335i coupe was the entry-level coupe until the 1 Series came along, but it never looked like it." I know the pricing is US dollars and in no way represents the difference here in AUS (I beleive the difference from my 135i order to a quoted 335i order is $34,500); but if it were a difference say of 8-10K would any of you aussies consider a 335 ? :iono: |

"it would lack the stigma of being BMW's "entry-level" car."
So the lead senior editor of Edmunds is "insecure". He basically says the 135i does this and that better, but he would pay $5,000 more to not drive the so-called "entry-level" BMW. Great logic Edmunds, what an idiot. Price difference is $5,900 anyways, FOR LESS PERFORMANCE! |

For $5k it would be a tougher decision for sure - particularly if a bigger back seat is important to you. In Aus the difference is more like $35-40k and for that you really need to ask why someone would be prepared to pay that much more apart from not wanting the stigma of being in an 'entry' model...

I would have bought a 335i a year ago if I liked it...but I didn't so here I am with a 135i order. To me the 135i is perfect. I have been lusting over something of that size and this really is just perfect!

If any 3er owner wants to call the 1er "entry-level", well, he can do that all day long if it makes him feel better. We all know how stupid that is. |

Do you want the car you want to drive or the car you want to pay for?
At 44 years of age and having had 12 cars including a 325i, X5, 530i and 130i - the best of the lot for me is the 130i. I have had a tremendous amount of fun with it and that is why I've got a 135i due in July. |

I've never been interested in the 335. I didn't like the proportions (very much like the 5 door GTI, so it seems like I'm in the minority)
In the flesh, I really do like the 135 though, and is probably the only BMW I'd consider right now. |

Was looking to get a new car first half 08, and 335 coupé was going to be it. Not a perfect fit, but loved the engine.
Then along comes this. With the "2 kids under 3", rear room not a big issue. Engine.... same a 335. Price.... as said, 30-40k cheaper than the 3 series. I'll say it again. For me, an absolute no brainer. BMW (US) might have erred by pricing the 1 and 3 so close, and I am sure it's because the 3 is underpriced to capture market against the luxury Japanese brands. Besides, for me, its not about buying it for what everyone else perceives about the car, but buying it for what I think of the car. Who gives a toss if someone think's it's an "entry level" BMW. We know the truth. An understated baby M. This car will go down in legend.
