Leather vs. leatherette in TX?
Any experiences with BMW leather or leatherette in the heat? I am torn, thinking about skipping the leather and having a custom fabric insert done on the front seats.
Any input is appreciated. |

I can't feel or tell the difference between the leather and the leatherette. One of the members did say his red leather is started to show some signs of wear. My black leatherette is still good and its been about a month now. Personally I don't think it makes a difference in the heat if you get one or the other.

I have Savannah Leather in Houston, where the heat is awful.
I love it. It does not get hot. Just don't get black on black and you should be ok! I really like the leather personally.

Weezie,
That's nice combo. I am in Houston as well (Heights). Any chance of getting some pics or seeing your car in person? Last weekend I drove all the way to the Woodlands to a fellow 1addict's montego blue car. |

I've got leatherette coming. I have factory leather in my '04 MINI, and the left bolster on the driver's seat is definitely showing signs of wear. I have a friend who traded in his '05 MINI for a 128, and his leatherette in the MINI still looked good as new.

Hi all!
I have just placed my order for a Space Grey with the red leather. I plan on getting the Huper Optik tint along with the rear shade to keep the leather looking its best. The Texas sun can be brutal... I always think of my grandmother's car with the towels (that once matched the interior) across the tops of her seats, bleached white by the time she sold the car. |

I am in the Woodlands all the time and haven't seen the blue one you came to see. I'll have to keep an eye out. I've only seen a white one around here. I don't think they know about 1 addicts though

I will have to look out for you. I don't know if you've seen the white one. It is always outside those townhouses near Six Pines drive, toward Baker Street-ish

I'm lucky enough to have covered parking both at home and at work. But the few times I've had it out in the heat for extended periods of time it wasn't too bad. Note that I have taupe leatherette in mine.

I have had three BMW's, all with leather, and never had a problem with wear or drying out. The one with all black interior was too hot, so I vowed to never get another one as long as I live in Texas. The only real issue I have with leatherette is you only have two color choices, black and taupe, whereas with leather you have 6 or 7, so if you want, say and AW car with the coral interior, or the savannah beige in the crimson red, etc. you are pretty much forced to buy the leather. I do think leather is a bit cooler than the leatherette, but since I have never owned one with leatherette, I am just guessing really. I know the leather is an expensive option, but I doubt I would buy a BMW without it; I cut costs on other options, but that is a personal preference obviously.
