[VID] 135i at Tsukuba

Thought I'd contribute something to this forum after weeks loitering around! I'd just like to say that you guys are the friendliest, down to earth forum members I've ever seen. No-one in here acts like an arrogant fanboy, which really gives off a good vibe whenever I visit.

Initially, I thought the 135i was stubby (to say the least) and ultimately didn't look as elegant as a 335i. But when you factor in the price advantage, rarity, performance and practicality, for me, it makes more sense to consider a 135i over the 335i, or even an M3. In fact, pretty much any car currently sold in Oz!

Anyways, on to the video... I know this is Best Motoring, so I wouldn't like to draw any sort of conclusion from the outcome of this race.

I would like to highlight that I was a bit surprised to see the Evo X and the Cayman S barely keep up with the 135i on the main straight. And also, is it just me, or did the 135i sound a little 'high pitched'? Does it normally sound like that? LOL

Anyways, feel free to comment or discuss!

Welcome to the forums. Yeah I also noticed people in here are very friendly compared to some other forums.

That video was interesting but I have no idea what they were saying. I didn't notice the 135i being high pitched but in saying that I was just using my laptop speakers. The race didn't look that serious so it's hard to draw any conclusion, it looked like they were all being very careful... understandable of course. The BMW looked good on the track. Do you think the fastest on the straight would be the 135i?

Except for me as I don't have a 135

And I drive a GTI but prefer a Cayman over a 135 :eyebulge:

Welcome stylish - very well worded post above and I also totally agree - this is a very, very good forum

I too had initial styling dislike of the 1er coupe (still don't like the hatch) but was completely turned around after viewing the many great pics on this forum and then seeing it in real life and the convertible variant is just purely sex on wheels in my eyes

The final clintcher for me then was discovering its fantastic performance, both straight out of the box and with enhancements and then comparing all it had to offer with other BMW models and different makes and yes for me too, it's a down right winner for its price bracket...

I too still don't have one and don't intend to for a while yet, but if in the end I stick to my original budget plan, it'll definitely be a 135i coupe I'll end up with

Welcome stylish!

There is nothing between those 4 cars! All down to driver. I suspect the Cayman S would be a bit faster than the rest, but there really isn't much between them.

I d/l those Best Motoring video as a habit. You have to see the salom test they have on both cars. There is a lot of body roll on the EVO X but the AYC keeps the traction and actually much quicker than the 135i.

You have to study the video and listen to what the people say. I think Naoki Hattori is the driver of the 135i and he is the fastest driver in my opinion of them all. 木下隆之 (Kinoshita) is the EVO X driver. He is an ex F3 driver, and drive a lot of the EVO on this show. He seems to be sponsor by them. He is ok I think.

When Kinoshita waved his hand and 135 got away, his car actually got blocked and cannot get the power down. Hattori was very quick though.

Ara who drives the Caymen is still racing in the GT500. He is very very quick.

BTW: The time show is a second slower for both EVO and 135i. I think prob cloud cover and could not get traction. They were in the 1"06 2 months ago.

Do you know who I want to learn driving from
大井貴之 (the guy in the middle)

The Cayman S was always going to win this.. Really isn't a fair comparison when you look at Cayman S pricing in AU (around 140k on road), compared with the 135 (around 80k on road).

I'd love to see how a standard Cayman would go in that race....

I think she is now a car "journo". Oh yes, she is a Vicki B-Henderson of Japan.

She is in the female racing league. Been on Best Motoring I think long time ago. But I think she is famous for this

^^ She looks aiight.. But yeah, an asian version of Vicki is a good thing though =P

But yeah, as Wayne previously stated, its all down to the drivers. You'd need to have the same driver for all four cars to come up with any sort of objective conclusion.

LOL Taka, where do you leech your dose of BM from? I don't have a reliable source =(

Stylish You have a PM.

The time attack is normally done by one person and it is usually by Tsuchiya.

I am waiting them to do it comparo. Same day time attack, although it is a slower track that day:

Cayman S 1'07"056
Lan EVO X 1'07"988
BMW 135i 1'08"762
S402 Liberty 1'09"812
Civic Type R FD2 1'09"215

Normally the Lan EVO is low 06 and last time I think the 135 is mid 06. FD2 best is around low 08s.
