Break in period

So, I have 650km under the wheels, and have managed on all but one occasion* to keep under the recommended 4500rpm

My SC advised doing this for the first 2000k's.

What do you guys think? Is it neccessary? What break-in strategy did you/will you follow with yours?

*that one occasion was an irresistable situation a few days ago with an M3, but that's another story...

I asked my SC about running in. He advised to drive it like I would normally drive it. He suggested since the ECU adapts to your driving style, not to drive it too slow as it may then become a granny car.

I have only had it for 2 days and generally keep it under 4500rpm.

I generally kept the revs low, focussing more on varying load and speed. While there's two very different schools of thought on running in an engine, most agree that load and speed should be varied. (ie, try not to sit on the one speed for prolonged periods of time). Now with over 2,000kms, i'm driving it like I stole it  (after letting it warm up)

I try to stay under 4,500 but I never do. I am leaning towards the idea that break-in was invented by dealers to reduce warranty claims. At least that's what I tell myself as the tacho races past 5000!

Stayed under 4000 for the first 1000km then started giving her a bit of welly.

I love the surge of power right up to the redline but the trouble is by the time you get to the redline you've run out of road or you're twice over the speed limit. Love the car - but walking ain't cool (if you get busted)!
