Why didnt BMW just release a M1?
There is the 1 series, 3 series, 5 series, 6 series and 7 series...BMW released a M3, M5 and M6 but why not a M1?
Instead of releasing M Packages, Sports packages for 135i why not deck out a M1? Discuss..... P.S I know what your thinking, why not M7? Well because most people dont have 500,000 to spend lol  |

because of the m1 heritage and the m1 concept, the 1's are not a mid engine supercar

M7? B7 Alpina
If you've noticed, all M cars are non-turbo. The 135i is turbo. Maybe something will change down the line after the M cars start coming with turbo's. http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/11/27...s-to-go-turbo/ Or maybe it has something to do with the M1 from 1978-1981. But then why was BMW toying with the idea of a new M1? http://www.leftlanenews.com/bmw-m1.html http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/04/30...concept-video/ http://www.bimmerfile.com/2008/04/29...bmw-m1-homage/ http://www.bimmerfile.com/index.php?s=m1

It makes good marketing sense. Bring out the basic models first, and add the M a couple years down the road. That stimulates new interest and gets the folks like us to pony up the second time.
Wait - it'll be here in a couple years. Have Fun, Rick |

I really dont think it'll be an m1 on the 128/135 platform, the concept m1 is a supercar like the original m1
they will stick with the tii version for the 1 series platform

+1, enough reason on it's own ... in addition, they'd have to push the NA I-6 past the turbo N45 power numbers.

I agree that we will only see a tii version on the current platform. But I can't wait for that!

Alot of reasons. Marketing wise, all of us 1 freaks will be craving something like that in a few years. Enter the tii!
I doubt they will label it M1 for a few reasons: - conflicts with the M1 sports car from back in the day - they probably don't want to introduce a car that's a M3 killer The tii will probably be very close to the M3 in terms of performance. I know I'm waiting to see what happens. I'll probably get a M3 though next (2011/2012). If I do real well, then maybe this M1/M10 super car that's supposed to come out to compete with the Audi R8. I am definately watching what BMW does. In any case, I doubt a M1 version of our 135 will come out though. Peace out!

I was about to get a 135i in a few months but I am thinking of waiting for the "special" models if they come out. I would love to see a rear lsd standard and certainly don't want to buy the car now only to be disappointed later because I have to add one.

for the same reason they wait a year or two to release the M3 after they redesign the 3. also for the same reason halfway through a body style it gets minor upgrades (new motor etc).
bmw is on a 7 year product cycle, they come up with something and add to it to keep interest and hopefully keep you coming back. they can't just blow it al right up front or it'll be pretty boring 7 years. or at least when we studied BMW marketing compaigns in marketing class that was where they were. |

the 135i did too, I know I could have bought a m3, but they are just too big and the 135i is so close in performance
