Warning to H&R spring owners!
after only 2 weeks of having the springs installed, the front passenger side started to make a rattling sound. Re-checked everything and all seemed ok, so I took it to the dealer (don't ask how I got them to try to fix it )...
long story short, it ended up being the front Strut assembly (shock) was blown. They had to order one, and apparently they are in back order even in Germany so they will have to pull one out of the assembly line. The real issue is that my service manager knows a few contacts in BMW Germany, and looks like on the e82's they've had a few episodes of the H&R sport/race springs causing the front Struts to go bad immediately. I'm going coils now, because I don't want drama from this if it happens again, but just thought I'd pass it along. I know there are several of us H&R spring owners, and most of you had no problems so far, but you never know. you have been informed!:drinking:

Thx for the info...
I was just about to purchase a set actually. But it seems there are two variants, one lowers 60mm front / 40mm rear and the other 50mm front / 25mm rear. Which ones are you talking about? Because the lower you go on the stock shock absorbers, the worst I think...

It's always a good idea to replace OE shocks/struts with a shorter sport setup (Koni, Bilstein) when installing lowering springs. Some people get by without doing it but it's not recommended by suspension experts.

When changing out to an aftermarket spring while still using the OE shocks, this limits the travel among other things causing pre-mature wear on the shocks. |

No problems here, 5000 miles and 1000 of that at the track on stock shocks with H&R Sports. I am sure they will go someday and when they do I will get coilovers or Koni's...but so far I am very happy with the stock shocks. Sorry to hear yours died so quick!!! Did you hit a big pothole or something by any chance?

This is why we recommend that you change the shocks if you change the springs. It saves you time, money, and hassle.
Sorry to hear about your ordeal though OP. |

Yet another reason to go with coilovers since you'll have a superior setup with matched components.

but it still shouldn't make the shocks go bad after 2 weeks, right? that still doesnt seem right :iono:
even stock honda shocks last a much longer time when paired with lowering springs... |

I have 12k miles on mine, with track days, and about 350 autocross runs on it with no ill effect so far. H&R Sports with stock dampers.
I agree that it's not optimal, and I'd rather coilovers. I had the springs already from my e90 (same part number), so it was a free modification. |
