BMW Rear Guide Rod Kit

*Original guide rods were made to deflect under load, a bad thing for good handling and traction(in of the the product images you can see where the stock 335i guide rod can deflect and bow under cornering and acceleration loads)

*Aluminum guide rods are made of all aluminum, a lightweight component thereby reducing wear and tear on other, more critical parts (rear subframe, control arm bushings, etc) Each guide rod weighs just over 1.5 lbs making for a total of ~3 lbs for both parts (stock guide rods weigh 2.1 lbs each or 4.2 lbs for both). A weight savings of over 1.2 lbs from the rear suspension.

*Bushing with a rubber material at one end is replaced by a sealed joint for deflection and noise free operation. Bushing deflection is unwanted because it leads to excess suspension movement. This is bad for handling and traction due to constant alignment changes. Plus, any power from the engine can take longer to get to the ground because it has to windup the bushing first.

The traction link is no brainier. You will have better traction and braking and more stability and you will feel this under acceleration. The traction link is actually a tuned spring so it is designed to deflect a lot under load which is really bad for the suspension control. This is the most important link to replace.

Going through the rear suspension you'd be shocked to find out that some of those pieces you can flex with your hand. Very very soft stuff. These Viagra rods should really help out our race car!

is this direct bolt on? How hard is install? Any extra components needed?

10-15 minutes per side after the wheels are removed. I did it in 5, on a lift with power tools!

Simple hand tools will be all you need. No additional components are needed, unless you feel like doing the upper links too!

Hmm, seems like a worth while upgrade, but ~$400?? Why so much compared to the upper links and front suspension parts?

Is it possible to get a package deal if you got the following:

Front lower wishbone kit + Regulating rod
Front tension rod kit
Rear subframe bushings
Rear guide rod Kit
Rear upper link kit

???

I'm a bit confused at your offerings for the front suspension on your website. It just seems like there are three things priced at 3 different levels that talk about the same thing. I'm assuming the $450 front control arm kit is the combination of the front wishbone kit and the front tension rod kit? I'd be very interested in a big package deal.

It seems that I am feeling the need to really invest in this car and be happy with it. My only problem with the car right now is all suspension related.

Sorry for the confusion.

I have listed the tension rod kit and lower wishbone kits by themselves, then the two together. Some people choose to piece meail and some wanted to do both while they are at it.

Rear kits are also available.

Has anyone installed these yet? If so, is it really that noticable or would getting swaybars be a better first choice for suspention upgrades? I don't really wanna do springs/shocks or coilovers but would like the car to do some autox a little better. Thanks

We better let a another party make the comment as some of you may think my review will be somewhat biased.

You may also want to check on E90post for reviews on these guide rods as many sets have sold since they were available from our web store.

You are right. The stock one is very flimsy and is actually heavier as well.

No, these are part of the 5-link rear suspension on the late model BMW's. These arms controls the axle torque.
