09 135i - popping noise over passenger door
Guten tag
OK - good news just had the Europe maps loaded to my iDrive OK - us spec coupe' - 3 weeks ownership and 390 miles ~ upon my first drive off the lot - this popping noise has been persistent when the car needs ' to adjust ' when it gives a little due to uneven road or parking lot. So today when I took the car in I asked the service guy to check and he heard the same noise I did. It does it all the time; sunroof open/closed - sun shade open/closed - driver window up/down. So, appointment to have this looked at in 2 weeks. They seem to think its the sunroof - but, Euler will need to remove the headliner and : for what is loose and causing this popping noise - has a sort of metal sound low pitch when it happens. Anyone have this issue? Keep you posted. I just hope they don't damage anything in the process. But, the up side is I would rather the German's look at it and remove the liner vs the states, as they have been servicing the 1er since '06 I think. a little on this - but better than say they transmission going out

Have you checked the B-pillar? I've got a sticker INSIDE the b-piller that has come semi-unstuck and occasionally sticks and unsticks hence making a subtle popping noise. Though I suppose that doesn't explain the metallic sound..

Moon roof cover noise
I've notice a noise coming from my moonroof when car is under stress, i.e. twisting or bending due to road irregularities. I was able to trace it to the moon roof cover my depressing on it and got it too mostly stop. I plan to bring this to BMW's attention when I have my first scheduled service.

I can tell that as it warms up it pops more. We are in the low to mid 40's now and this week it has popped quite a bit. I'll have it looked at again with I swap back to my summer tire set up (dealer install)

SI B51 02 09
Body Equipment January 2009 Technical Service SUBJECT Buzzing Noise from the Door Panel Pocket MODEL E82, E88 (1 Series) produced up to 9/2008 SITUATION Intermittently, while driving over rough surfaces, a buzzing, clicking, or cracking sound is heard from the door panel. Specifically, the noise is coming from the door pocket area. Pressing on the upper edge of the door pocket while driving the vehicle over rough roads will eliminate the noise. CAUSE A loose plastic weld on the back side of the door panel CORRECTION Repair the loose plastic weld on the door panel. Replacement of the door panel is not necessary. PROCEDURE Remove the affected door panel per Repair Instruction RA 5141000. Lay the door panel on a hard surface for the following work to be performed. The surface should be covered to prevent damage to the finished side of the panel. Inspect each of the plastic welds in the area of the door pocket. If any play exists between the welds and the door panel base support, each of them will need to be repaired. Heat the affected plastic welds using an electric heat gun (set to high). The heat gun should be held about 1" from the weld to properly heat it. Each affected weld should be heated to the point that it softens, but does not melt. Remove the heat gun and use a blunt object (such as a 13mm socket) to press the weld securely to the door panel support. Allow the weld to cool and then ensure that the weld is no longer loose. Reinstall the affected door panel. WARRANTY INFORMATION Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty. |

thanks for the info, but the noise is overhead coming from the between the passenger side. As you sit the pop is basically right about your right ear between sunroof and the arch of the door - sorta where the grab handle is. make sense?

hrmm, i understand. it's kind of hard to diagnose your problem from way over here. have you added any pressure to various spots to try and mute the noise??

Yeah, I've got this problem too, however I feel like it's coming from the dash near the glove box. I'm going to mention it to my dealer as it bugs the hell out of me!!! However, it seems as if the sounds goes away after the climate control / HVAC warms up...

^^you might have a different situation. there is also another bulletin about noise coming from the dash area. some of the HVAC lines underneath the bulkhead gets loose and rattles.

I noticed that is the window is lowered just a bit "few millimeters" the rattle coming from the right door disappear.
rattle coming from the glove box is caused by the mechanism inside the latch used to open the box and the piston inside the box. |

I have the same deal, but only in cold weather. Every time I drive over a small bump or uneven road I hear a popping sound that seems
To come from behind the glovebox. It goes away as the car warms up and in warm weather I don't hear it at all. I assume there is a tight tolerance between the dashboard and frame and the temperature change causes the Materials to rub against each other when the car shifts over a bump. I also only noticed it a few days after I hit a big freakin pot hole, so while I didn't hurt the wheel or suspension/linkages, I may have caused a slight shift in the dashboard mount there as well. |

Ive got that terribly annoying popping/cracking noise coming from the B pillar. I had seen this thread before so went straight there when the noise started. If I push on the top of the bottom panel where it meets the B pillar I can replicate it.
I guess I'll try to get in there myself to see if I can fix it, otherwise I'll send it in to get fixed and get my door seals replaced too since I have a wind noise issue (kill 2 birds with 1 lame loaner)
