I thought at first that I too might have hit it with something, but I am the only driver in my car, I only sometimes have passengers with me, but not myself or anyone else I believe has done anything to have caused this. This maybe for the airbag, but to me this is a fit and finish issue and for a brand new car barely over a year old I think its unacceptable.

After reading this post, I checked my 135. In that same area, my dash is slightly raised....very small..not noticable unless actually looking for it. So time will tell how it endures.

1 month old 1er with slight indentation checking in. With the rest of the interior quality being pretty damn good it's a bit of an eye sore: albeit, not a deal killer by any means.

Haven't even seen my car in 5 months... Less than 2500miles for a 1 year old car but when I get home in 2 weeks I will definitely check it out and let you guys know. My car is always garaged unless I drove my car somewhere (which is obviously not often given the number of miles..) I'm crossing my fingers for a smooth dash!

I thought about that, but the car is garaged most of the time. Also, the sun in the area of Germany where I live is a rarity. Rain, overcast, rain, overcast, Oh snap! The sun.

I have two on my dash and the head of BMW (in my area) looked at it and said they would replace the dash pad. Problem is, he said he couldn't promise it would not come back or be worse the second time. I said ok, you will continue replacing it every time it comes back until the problem is resolved. I have 26,000 miles on the car; it is 12 months old and is in the sun alot which is what causes the dash to pop and the creases to form around the airbag. The plastic contracts and relaxes due to temp. causing this to happen. Each time a part is replaced it supposedly carries a year warranty on the part so if I see ANYTHING that resembles the crack I will keep having it replaced. I have a dash on back order right now?
..... Fuel pump has been malfunctioning for about 3 months now. Can't wait for it to go! |

I was told it wasn't too big of a task? I will let everyone know when the dash "pad" arrives as they call it. It really bulges in cold weather and when it warms it lies down a bit. If you push on it when it's hot it kind of crackles and goes into place. WEIRD? This is my first Bimmer coming from owning 3 Lexus in the past 7 years and I never had cosmetic issues like I have with this car. Truth be told nothing drives better than the Bimmer but I think it's lacking a little in materials and refinement. Coral red leather is wearing fast too.

I have this as well, and mine is pehaps worse than the one pictured in the OP. I noticed it when my car hade under 2000 miles and is an 09'. I am waiting for a BMW rep to look at it. Perhaps the dash materials (Interior materials in general) used to save money on this vehicle are sub par for a BMW as some have noted in articles I have read. There is no way this is an acceptable condition. Please post details of any dealer fix, also provide the dealer name and location.

Mine has gotten worse as time has gone by, and now it is a full rectangular outline. My car is out in the sun a lot, and it keeps getting worse. Being under 25, my dealer will not give me a loaner car, so I guess I'll have to deal with it . Is there any possibility of this being a safety issue w/ the deployment of the airbag?

I just sent this link to my SA and he confirmed with his boss that this is the same exact condition that I have. The parts are being ordered and they will be replacing the dash as soon as the parts arrive.
I credit this web site for validating this issue, 1ADDICTS FTW...

My dash does not seem to have any of these problems.. for reference, my car is 1 year old <2500 miles always garaged.

anytime you repalce a dash, you are begging for more issues.....it is a big job. I am sure the material is still the same, and all internal parts will be replaced. Get readu for squeeks and groans......and check over all of the interior as the tech will be living in the car.....

^^ I agree 100%!!! You are asking for a world of hurt if you have the dealer replace the dash. It will squeak and rattle. |

BTW, dealer said that they can only order a dash with the storage bin (seen below in the DIY section), so I get a bonus storage compartment... http://www.1addicts.com/forums/showt...t=Dash+storage My fingers are crossed...
