Got pulled over for hitting rev limiter
Hello Fellow 1er's!! Over the weekend I over took a police car as we came off a roundabout onto duel carriage way, I was in 2nd accelerated to 70mph, over took the police car, and went on my way. He pulled me over 1mile down the road, as he said when I over took I was bouncing off the rev limiter, and he though I didn’t know how to drive. Anyways I was VERY confused at this, then realised every now and again, when accelerating hard in 2nd and sometimes 3rd the power is delivered in bursts, not a smooth continuous delivery like on normal accelerating. Tried with traction control on and off, still does it, but only very occasionally. I cant take back to BMW as I have had it chipped!!! Anyone else had this? |

What sort of tune do you have and by whom?
The acceleration should be smooth throughout on a stock car. So perhaps it is the tune? |

Didnt break any law. I'd obviously never drive on the limiter or even hit it.
I got it chipped at chippedUK, so I believe there is no physical chip there, was a re-map. |

I was confused and do not understand what you trying to complaint. Are you saying the egnine was un-intentionally clipped out on you at a lower rpm range?

No its not as sharp as the bouncing off a rev limiter. But sometimes when you put your foot down in 2nd and 3rd the power doesnt just smoothly run up. Its in slight burst that you can hear more than feel.
Was hoping that someone might have had the same kind of thing... |

It depends on the map. Using map 6 on JB3 V1.22 piggy back system, there is a sudden power surge around 4000 rpm and my car was pulled strongly upward. I don't know whether that fit your description.

sounds like boost hunting... probably an overly agressive map and ecu trying to compensate? maybe just a bad map in general no smoothing etc. To be fair, every piggyback I've seen brought boost on ealier and stronger, but definately sacrificed smoothness. Remaps are supposed to be able to get around that.
