I am about to install mine so I thought I would read through this thread in addition to watching the video. I just want to clarify the water/alcohol mixture....will this in itself allow you to move the spoiler around a bit or do you have to use the water/soap first. I'm going to have to go find the moulding tape from 3M. That thicker tape looks much better. Thanks for all the useful info from everyone in this thread!!

Hopefully this helps someone....
I just put the spoiler on. I used water/alcohol and the thing stuck and I couldn't really move it much. I actually ended up using the spray to help me peel it up to reposition it. I wish I had done the soap/water mixture as was suggested, but I was too afraid it wouldn't stick very well in the end. It's on for now. I'll see how it really looks tomorrow.

I used Zaino Z-PC Fusion with a light polishing pad (white) on my porter cable. It took some work, but it came off.

John,
Is your car Jet Black? If so what did you do with your OEM spoiler? i'd be interested in purchasing it if you haven't sold it yet. Thanks

My Jet Black car is gone along with the factory spoiler. I think I saw somewhere on the forum some one was selling a brand new JB spoiler.

How long have u guys had ur car before u took the stock spoiler off? I have had my car for a month now... I am afraid it will be very hard to take it off...
Btw... I am debating whether going OEM CF spoiler or aftermarket... for those who have aftermarket spoilers.. how's the fit & finish? any suggestion as to which online vendor I should go for? Thanks...

Mine was on for over a year before I took it off. Didnt have any real problems getting it off. The problem is getting the goop off the trunk.

A tip is to get Krud Kutter at wal-mart, let it sit for a few min, and then use a credit card to scrape it off. It came rignt away for me and after I polished with a wax and I was done. Who ever previously suggested using an exacto knife to cover the entire wing is a genius!!!

okay so about a week after install my spoiler is drifting up lol... i'm whatever about it cuz 1) you cant notice until you are up close and 2) im too lazy to fix it. here are some pictures. i'm sure it was just a lousy install on my part. hopefully you guys can do a better job then me.
These are from the rear of the car looking forward... notice the spacing. It used to be flush; however, i guess i used too much adhesive its splitting. These are from the rear window looking towards the spoiler (i tried to get an up close and leveled picture for so guys can understand when i say 3m aint thin) Im going to have to reinstall this bad boy. Also as a tip to those who are about to DIY.. i used a credit card + a drivers license (WITHOUT any cloth covering) to remove the gook from the initial spoiler and it did not scrape my car at all... I was PUSHING SUPPPPER FIRM, fast, hard whatever u wanna call it lol and my car was fine. |

Thanks so much for the video! I installed my spoiler today. I used goo gone, didn't come off right away but it helped a lot. I gotta say, you guys were right, my thumb is sore as hell! I'll have some installed pics within the next few days. Thanks again for all the tips, it made the install much more easier

Thanks so much for taking the time to put this video together JohnL135I. It was vital for my install today.
I also appreciate those who suggested goo gone. I spent about 30 minutes wrestling with alcohol + water + cloth or sponge. Goo gone and a trim tool really helped speed the removal process up. |
