Correct. The Sport and M-Sport package increase the top speed limiter to 155 mph.

Not entirely correct. The M3 goes up a little higher, especially with the DCT. Trust me, I test drove one and I got up to roughly 165mph. |

wow, that must have been some test drive. But I still call bullshit on the "Full M Spec Package" that Stounj89 claims to have.

Some of the Euro Delivery 135i drivers reported similar speeds. The speculation was that BMW speedometers read high by a few percent, so the actual 155 MPH was shown as 165 MPH. It would be interesting to see what a portable GPS would show in comparison to the spedo.

this is true. Its a sliding scale... The faster you are going, the greater the difference between speedometer speed and actual speed. That's why you need a gtech to get a handle on your 0-60.

Ditto. When I ordered my 1, my sales guy was extremely cool. He printed out the dealer ordering guide (covered with CONFIDENTIAL watermarks) and it makes no mention of an "M-Spec" package.

Check the M3 forum, I know the DCT lets you drive faster than the manual due to the 7th gear. But I dont wanna get off topic. |

FJUNO78... Sounds Like you are a little too attached to your 3.... My wording might have been a little off but they increase the top speed on the 1 M-spec... If you buy that package...

m sport/sport package increases top speed from 131 to 149 mph per bmw usa.
Not 155 or anything higher Top speed1 131 [149] mph 1. Top speed limited electronically. Figures in [ ] apply to vehicles with Sport Package or M Sport Package with increased top speed limiter. |

Stout.. I don't have a 3. All the M Sport does vs the sport package is give you a black headliner, m badges on the door jams, shadowline trim, and different style wheels. It goes no faster or handles any differently than a car equipped with the standard sport package. The "1M Spec Package" you speak of does not exist. BMW created a special , secret package and you are the only person who has it

Ask him for the "M-Spec" package/option number and see what he gives you. I'm willing to bet it's ZMP. |

Unless BMW's website is mistaken, the shadowline trim is included in the Sport Package as well as the M-Sport Package.

I think that the German manufacturers (except Porsche) agreement is to limit cars to 250 km/h which is 155.34 M/h.

So I asked Joern Esser, my salesman at Passport, who put me in touch with Roland Pintilie, Passport's Master Shop Foreman. Mr. Pintilie (an extremenly nice guy!) wrote to me to say that he researched the technical manuals for me, and that "M suspension would be 10mm lower in the front and rear, the spring ratio, shock absorbers and stabilizer bars are different parts from the regular sport package." So it appears that, for 2011, at least, there's a difference between the Sport and M Sport suspensions. I went with M Sport. Oh, by the way, greetings all! I just ordered a 135i convertible in Space Gray with Moonlight top and Savannah Beige interior (and EVERY SINGLE option offered!), for Euro Delivery. I go to Germany in August to drive the car. Looking forward to getting a lot of great info from this board! Last edited by pinmagic; 06-17-2010 at 12:42 PM.. |

I'm not questioning that. If that is true it applies to all M Sports.
My point was that the is no such thing as getting a 135i in "full M spec" with extra secret goodies. Regardless of what Stoutnj believes, he has the ZMP.

Really, the only M parts on our cars are the steering wheel and shift knob. It is not a full M suspension and is merely "tuned" by the M Division. I suppose the 261M wheels could count as well.

I'll without full committment until someone does a high speed test where 7th gear results in a higher top speed than the 6 speed manual. If anything, a taller 7th gear compared to the 6th gear of the manual, could result in the DCT not getting to top speed. At those speeds you need a lot of power to overcome wind resistance, and a slightly lower gear could actually help top speed. |
