Scratched my rim after only 3 months :(
I bought a 128i 3 months ago and today I scratched my front wheel while parallel parking! I hate myself right now... I am so pissed...
What do you guys recommend to fix this up? I don't want the whole rim to get repainted for a single scuff... |

I have hit potholes etc and damaged or scraped rims before. I use a model wheel repair guy. It cost about $100 and he comes to my office with his trailor, fixes the wheel right on the spot. Can't ever tell anything happened.

When I think about it, it cant be worse than hitting the car body. Last edited by thinkbig; 11-18-2010 at 11:44 AM.. |

Yea, he somehow repairs it, then repaints it. I never had it done on my BMW but on a few other cars. Could never tell anything was done once he finished. Not sure what kind/type of paint is used but it's flawless.

Most dealerships have a guy they use for this kind of thing as well. They are all usually mobile.

Check out the For Sale section here. I recently got lucky and found 1 261m wheel at a great price.

I did the same thing after just a few weeks. Can't worry too much about it. You're the only one who really notices it. Think of it as "character" for your car.
I once met a guy who used panel vans in his business. He told me that, whenever he got a new van, the first thing he would do would be to hit the rear bumper with a ball-peen hammer. That way, he didn't have to worry about the "first ding."

Feel your pain. Did it a couple months after I got mine when I didn't see a median pulling out of an ATM. I hit both front and year wheels, god I was mad at myself.
But take heart, the dealer will have somebody who can smooth it out and repaint. Mine are just like new, until the new tire installer got a hold of it. You just can't keep these things pristine. |

It seems pretty easy to fix a scraped wheel. After reading some DIYs’ I might attempt it if needed. From what I have seen the wheel touch up paints match really well.
Main thing you learn from this is the wheels scrape easily so if you have the tilt down mirror on the right use it when parking. My first car with low profile tires I scraped the wheel but learned from that mistake and have not done it since. And it seems I park a little further from the curb than most now which helps. And if you’re an end spot parker watch out when you park on an end spot with a curb. I have seen lots of damage from people taking an end spot to protect their car and end up curbing a wheel since they try to park close to the curb.
