1M exhaust shots from Detroit
I haven't seen much info on the exhaust for this thing so I snapped a few upskirt shots while in Detroit.

Assuming the photos are in front to back sequence, am I correct that we're looking at a cat, a resonator and muffler?
If so, any guesses what it would sound like with the resonator removed? Neil |

the back exhaust of the E46 M3 is 2 in 4 out.
It doesn t matter to me much. All you want is a free flow titanium exhaust for a turbo anyway. |

Thanks for these pictures. All I remember seeing is one pic from the Detroit show of the 1 pipe > quad pipes at the tail of the car. From that pic there was no way to see the "exhaust header" pipes / dual pipe set up which extends a good way under the car.
And I can clearly see the transition to the extra large diameter solo pipe(s). I like the set - up. I'd still like to see sometime how the Z4 335is exhaust system is configured for comparison purposes, since there appear to be dual exhaust at far ends of the backside of the Z4 335is. |

Can someone give a logical explanation, why the muffler looks, as it has been welded two hours before the showcase! I think, this was already mentioned in some thread but nevertheless i find very strange that the it looks like it comes from a middle development stage prototype! A really hope the final production units will have a normal one, cause this will be ridiculous. Or could it be, that they had put a specially developed one in order to get a better sound for the showcasings? Anyway, some answers or thoughts would be appreciated!

There are two Cats at the end of the downpipes (first picture), two additional secondary cats in the middle section (offset cylindrical canisters), a resonator where the two pipes merge into one and then a muffler at the rear. A midpipe from MadDad will eliminate the secondary Cats and rear resonator (it's fairly large) and replace them with two mini resonators. Should bolt right on and give a nice little bump in power and sound.
