Dang, I wish it was a little less so it would make the decision easier. We are getting close to price of stripped M3 Sedan with ED vs. MSRP 1M? I like the 1M very, very much but I LOOOOOVE the M3. I Like smaller size of 1 but back seat nicer on M3....man it's getting tough! The V8 sounds so good! Anyone else in the same quandary?

Nope. I really like the size of the 1-series better and, as much as I love the sound of the V8, I like the torque of a turbocharged engine even more.

Maybe I missed an updated announcement, but I thought the base price of the 1M was $47,010? The OP's list says $46,135. Is that invoice?

Hmmmm, a lot of options out there for 55K. I guess it depends on what you're looking for, just seems like you might as well get an M3. I hope this car is Shangri-la

Wow, that premium package is super expensive considering the fact that the leather is standard and it only have 6FL as an addition to the 135 one which has it for free in the value package and actually leather is free in the value package as well.

For the 135, it's $1,950 for the following:

Universal Garage Door Opener
Digital Compass Mirror
Ambiance Lighting
Power Front Seats
Auto dimming Mirrors
BMW Assist
Lumbar Support
Leather

For the 1M, $2,400 for the following:
Power Mirrors
Power Front Seats
Lumbar Support
Ambiance lighting
BMW Assist
iPod

The convenience package seems to be a good deal since the regular one for the 135 is $1,000 for just Alarm, Comfort Access and PDC while the 1M one has all three plus Navi which is normally a $2,100 standalone option, too bad you'll need to order ZPP with this package.
I guess I'll be changing my order to a stripped model

It's around 52K ED with speed cloth... It's more than 1M but I wish it wasn't so close.

I also like the size of the 1M a little better but I like the look of the M3. I also like the 19" wheels but supposedly BMW was going for lightweight. I think the 18" M3 wheels look nice and are lighter. Anyway, now that it's getting close, it's getting tough for me. If I could get ED 1M for less, that might tip the scale but if they are going for MSRP+, not sure. I wish BMW was more consistent between what they say and do.

They say no sunroof for less weight but go with heavier bigger wheels. They say driver and performance is the focus but they put Alcantara on dash for looks instead of the seat inserts for real "driving performance." They say they want to keep cost down but produce small numbers and make leather standard instead of speed cloth or Alcantara.

They are very inconsistent between what they say and do IMO.

That's pretty close to the MRSP on a fully loaded 135i cab.

Let's look at the ED price of the M3 Sedan:

Base price, including Shipping and Gas Guzzler tax = $58075
ED = 7% off of Base price only. NOT including shipping or Guzzler Tax = $55900 X 7% = $3913 (That is how ED price is calculated)

$58075 - $3913 = $54162 This is the ED price of an M3 Sedan Without ANY options at all, none, nothing. So how many are going to order an M3 without any options at all?

Add anything like Competition Package $2500
DCT $2900
Convenience Package $2900
Etc.

It's easy to see just how quickly an M3 get very expensive compared to a loaded 1M

easy call as many of you have pointed out: if you don't want a stripped 1M, you should probably opt for a stripped ED M3 instead of loading out the 1M.

trust me on this one, we have a loaded 2010 Z4 35i ($69k sticker) and I regret not forcing my sweet bride of 16 years into buying a M3 Coupe - I tried but she just loves roadsters. oh well, the Z is a fun car and I am a very happily married man

Yeah the price on ZPP is ridiculous! I didn't want to speculate earlier, but I was hoping it would come in around $1500-1700. And is it really not coming with the garage door opener and auto-dimming mirrors? Those are the only two things from ZPP that I really want since we can get the iPod standalone.

I'm one of the crusty old guys that thought the M3 was a race car for the street and I love the idea of a stripped M3 with cloth, no sunroof. That is why I got excited about the 1M. It was supposed to be a return to race cars for the street.

You are correct in that I am looking at also a stripped 1M but they added leather, 19" Comp Package wheel, Alcantara solely for looks and raised the price. That's my only point....just wish the price difference was a little more AND that BMW and Dr. M did what they said which was focus on weight and real performance. Alcantara should be on your butt not the dash. The tell you can't have a sunroof for weight, but I think there is close to 4lbs per wheel difference in weight and they make leather the only option for real performance. Leather is OK on super bolstered seats like Recaro but cloth, alcantara is better. So I am not a "hater" as many of you like to label us old guys, just sharing some thoughts and opinions.

pricing sounds great. If dealers don't mark up, that is very fair price for 1M.

You can't compare fully loaded to stripped, FL M3 is way into the 60s
