Busted for Tint in VA?
With summer upon us, I am looking to get my 128i windows tinted here in NoVA.
I talked with a local tint shop, and the owner told me that the driver/passenger windows can be no darker than 50% tint, but that he would be willing to go as dark as 35% for me. My big question: has anyone been busted for tints in Virginia? If so, how dark were they? Thanks! |

I have 35% tint on all my windows and have had them that way on all my cars since 04. In the that amount of time i've been pulled over twice and given tint tickets. Both time I got pulled over it was late at night and they were looking for drunk drivers and gave me a tint ticket as a last resort. G'head and do it and you won't regret it. Tickets were like 70 bucks if you decide to pay it. I got both of mine dismissed.

I had the paperwork from my original installation saying the tint installed was 50% on the fronts and on the other i just called the cop and told him I had it fixed and asked if he'd dismiss it to save me a morning off from work. He did Just be nice and respectful when you get pulled over and when you call. I played the dumb card both times saying, the tint shop told me that my factory windows have a slight tint in them which causes the darker reading.

Why nit have the tint done to Virginia specs? It is not worth getting pulled over. I had an old Mustang long ago with tint, and when the cop ticketed me, he recommended removing it. He said you really aren't allowed to tint front windows at all. Youth, now, there is a tint that looks lighter, but in fact reduces UV, and infrared light. It works on windshields, so the inside of the car is significantly cooler. Been thinking of that for the Lotus.

I always have. I know several people that have run 25% all around w/o ever having any issues.

Oh boy. I better watch out then. I just moved to Blacksburg from Miami and I have 5% on the sides and back windshield. Lol front is factory except for 5% sun strip across the top. Should I be very cautious or...? Maybe drive around with my windows down alot..

Yup. Still got my Florida tags and all. How soon would I have to switch? I'm kinda clueless to how it all runs up Here. Lol

Ohh and I had a cop following me today for a couple miles, but didn't pull me over. I was at speed limit, even saw when it went from 35 to 25 even to 15, and had my windows down so he didn't see my tints. It was just weird to see him in my rearview for a good ten minutes as I went around the VT campus. Lol I guess it was weird to see a new Bimmer in town, and a modded one (looks wise) at that.
