Who has 450 HP
Anyone pushing 450 WHP+ out of their 135 (N54)? My goal is to Reach the 450WHP range and I just want to know who out there has this much HP out of the N54 engine and what mods they have.

With RB Turbos and meth you can hit that.

depends on what dyno you use but folks running PROcede, race gas, meth and full bolt ons are there or REALLY close.
Upgraded turbos should get you above the 500HP range, but you will most likely need some internal work. HPF's turbo kits are gonna kill it, but will likely need internal work for the stages that will gain 500+HP from the research they have already conducted.

BMS made 456rw stock turbos with the old JB3. A few customers made 445rw. But realistically stock turbos 435whp is a more achievable goal. With RB turbos BMS has had a few customers break 500whp. With nitrous many 500whp+ cars.

FBO+ aftermarket turbos= +450whp from what I've seen. Most aftermarket turbos are just reworked OEMs and are pretty much the same IMO. So: 700 for downpipes, 500 chargepipe and BOV, 700 for an intercooler, 100 for an intake and 3200 for helix's turbo kit. So a little over 5k should get you between 450 and 500whp, that's about identical to what the LSx guys are seeing/paying(assuming its a proper build, and not using nitrous)

I am FBO + meth and am in between 430-450whp depending on conditions. Realistically, 440whp on a normal day.
To go much beyond that, you're going to need nitrous or bigger turbos, at which point the fueling craps out at 500whp with meth. Obviously it's not a great idea to be using meth to compensate for inadequate fueling, but that's the current workaround. Once the fuel pump gets figured out soon, you'll start seeing 550-600 I'm sure.

I was under the impression that the helix price included a jb4 w a bigger turbo map, ill check their site but I'm pretty sure that its $3200 including the juicebox
Edit: just checked their site, $3200 including custom map JB3. Procede(and apparantly jb4) are extra Last edited by rader1; 07-05-2011 at 06:34 PM.. |

what changes to the engine are you talking about? plenty of people are above 420whp with stock turbos and internals

If Im going to upgrade my turbos then Im gonna be aiming for well over 500HP. Whats the point of upgrading the turbos if nobody sells a fuel delivery upgrade for the 1er? no point in spending 3200 bucks for a turbo upgrade if your limited to just 500HP because of fuel delivery issues.Thats just in my opinion. But as far as the stock turbos go. I believe if I get full bolt ons and the JB4 and get my car tuned i may see the 450HP range. Hopefuly.

Whats being done about the fuel issue? Is the problem with our high pressure direct injection system?
If our turbos are just small mitsubishi TD03s why cant we bolt on a size or so larger and run with it. We would just need a manifold bc I assume our manifolds are built into the turbo housings not flanged like after markets. |

And yes the turbo housings are cast into the manifolds. If you want the best information you should head over to N54tuning.com |

So someone is developing some sort of alternative fuel management system or something? Dont get me wrong my car with all the bolt-ons is an asphalt shredding beast but there is always more.....but not if its going to hamper this cars amazing around town demeanor. I have a friend with a 500+ hp Supra and its useless...his turbo is too big to have fun at less then 100mph and I kill him on the highway doing pulls till he catches up and leaves me in the dust....

the pumps are part of the issue as well as the injectors because they need to be coded by the dealership. this fuel system is much more complicated than just slapping on a walboro and bigger injectors

Yea its more then just a Walbro and injectors for sure and thats what makes it so much better then your average tuner... its exclusive and complicated
once a fuel system comes out there will be so many open doors for power - BMW almost always over builds their internals - even being their first turbo in many years for consumers I am sure there are minimal corners being cut |

Torque is the main force that kills motors though and plenty of people have done fine with over 450 wtq. The turbos are still efficient at just 14lbs of boost on pump gas, and can easily do 16-18 on meth or race gas. Anything more than that, then it's out of it's efficiency range and you are just blowing extremely hot air. The n54 can take boost, it's just the stock turbos and fuel system that are the culprits of limitation.
