You can fill it in for contrast with ANY color you choose. The picture is old and isnt focused but you get the idea. All you need is a match, a paper towel, and a crayon the color of your choosing. Melt the wax into the space and wipe away the excess. Ive done it hundreds of times.

Ill most likely be doing mine in black

I am in no hurry to take peoples money. I am totally NOT in this for the money, I just want a trim piece that is perfect before I take $$ and deliver.

Seems like a good idea as long as the wax doesn't start to melt in the direct sunlight.

BTW where did you get that alcantara wheel cover?......
It is a DIY I did myself. Got the fabric from Gulf fabric in Florida. I prefer the charcoal gray OE Alcantara over the black used on the shifter/ebrake because it matches the dash and doors on our cars better. Also retaining the indentation that the OEM trim has I think it looks better too! Just keep in mind that the ///M logo will not fit once the fabric is in place so what I did is Dremmeled the space/indentation where the M emblem goes before gluing thefabric in place. It was a PIA project, but totally worth it IMO.

Depending where you live and where you park your car Im sure the wax can and will melt. Maybe some sort of clear coat will work to seal the wax for those people in warmer climates or who park outdoors in direct light. Not sure, Ive never tried it

I was thinking about using the Dr Color Chips paint to fill in the lettering. What do you think Pap?

Suggestion...

I want the ring....

If people want a plaque then start another thread and you do the research.

I believe the plaque is still a better option, possibly placed below the CD drive.

OR in front of the passenger seat below the alcantara, much like these following cars. (for this I'd recommend a single line perhaps "Limited 1 of 740" or "BMW ///M Limited 1 of 740")
In pic... Scuderia, 458, gt2rs, gallardo, taurus

Sorry to bring this up but if you are going to do this maybe consider the plaque again haha
Thanks for your efforts though

Do you mean you dremeld the spot so that the wrap would have an indent for the M logo to be glued into??

Is this just a grey alcantara or is this something special gulf has?? There are some big interior places in NY I may try to source some material from. I was going to paint mine orange but i really like the look of this!

BMW makes a performance steering wheel cover - which actually means the same thing that Metak recovered. I have it on my car, and it has been discussed here before. If you don't want to recover yours, you can use the BMW one, and simply place the M sticker on it.

Can't wait to get a ring!

I ordered the OE wheel trim that already has the indentation. You have to account for the thickness of the fabric otherwise the M emblem will not fit into the space afterwards. That's why you have to make some same ahead of time....

Gulf has a very good OE charcoal gray BMW alcantara. You might be able to find it locally but I can only vouch for Gulf as being a great match for out dash door alcantara.

The BMW one does not have the indentation though. Also the color is darker than the alcantara found on our dash as well. That's why I went the extra mile recovering the OE piece. I've had the BMW performance alcantara trim on my M3, I think this looks better!

Never seen or worked with it. As long as the excess can be wiped off easily and not leave a residue it should work.

I saw pics in the other thread and noticed the letters were raised and not recessed. Was this a change made recently or did I misunderstand and think they would be recessed like the OEM 2008 135 ring??

Just double checked... pics in this thread show recessed letters. So whats the final piece?

I will have both available next week. Recessed and raised. I think the raised lettering looks awesome. Super clean, but I will let people decide what they like. I'm not pushing one or the other....

@Mr.Metak2you

Your devoted efforts are appreciated. Just wondering why the reference to "Limited" in the "BMW Motorsport Limited" inscription ?

Sorry to be anal, but shouldn't it be either "BMW Motorsport GmbH" (official company name until 1993) or "BMW M GmbH" (complete company name since 1993: "BMW M GmbH, Gesellschaft für individuelle Automobile") (http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M: "1992 wurde die BMW Individual Geschäftsgruppe in die BMW Motorsport GmbH integriert und 1993 erfolgte die Umbenennung des Unternehmens in BMW M GmbH, Gesellschaft für individuelle Automobile") ?

Or is the starter ring to be read "BMW Motorsport - Limited 1M Coupé - ONE of 740" ?

"BMW M GmbH (previously: BMW Motorsport GmbH) is a subsidiary of German car manufacturer BMW AG.
BMW M, also known as M-Technik or just "M" (for Motorsport) was initially created to facilitate BMW’s racing program, which was very successful in the 1960s and 1970s. As time passed, BMW M began to supplement BMW's vehicles portfolio with specially modified higher trim models, for which they are now most known by the general public. These M-badged cars traditionally include modified engines, transmissions, suspensions, interior trims, aerodynamics, and exterior modifications to set them apart from their counterparts. All M models are tested and tuned at BMW's private facility at the Nürburgring racing circuit in Germany."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M
http://www.facebook.com/pages/BMW-M/108115255882986

"BMW Motorsport Ltd." exists in the UK (Berkshire) since 1995, but is an independent company looking after motor sport activities, and - except if mistaken - unrelated to BMW M GmbH.
