I'm assuming that you have to declare mods for insurance purposes also? Or is that another one that people just forget about? |

Depend on the company. Personally, I only have to if I want their value factored in to the value of the car in the event of a total loss, or damage due to accident/theft/fire/etc. I dont believe all insurance companies have the same policy in this regard.

Not to get off topic but i've had insurance companies say they would not insure me with the mods done to my car, in this case an R32 with a stage 2 VF blower on it. Weak.

The people who piss me off are the fools that know better, but try to play cat and mouse with the dealers because they are too spineless to take responsibility. What they do is criminal and makes is harder for legitimate tuners to make legitimate claims.

I'm with gargoyal on this. Now I am new to the boards and I'm see ppl push rediculous boost out on these little turbo. End up costing them 26k(e90forum) of damage and are pissed BMW wouldn't warrenty them for there tunes weather it's SSTT, JB2, JB2H, Exede, Procede V1.47 or whatever.

The guy who blew his engine for $26k was not pissed at BMW at all. He knew he blew his engine from his mods.
And many people have had V30 installed on E90 and felt no changes. There were even some threads saying they took V30 off the computer due to problems. |

I picked my car up in Munich on July 1st. I did not check to see which program it has. It has no lag. None. Zilch.
It pulls from just off idle. It just pulls harder the more you rev it. Put 1513 miles on it. I will check the program when it gets here. |

Exactly, a friend of mine had his STi insured fully and crashed it (destroyed) and the insurance would not pay a cent to him when the car was examined and found it didn't have the standard factory turbo. He got legal advice and was told he could spend double what the car was worth on legal fee and probably end up with nothing. If you mod your car, even software you have to disclose it to the insurance company or look out if you want to make a claim. At least thats how it is in Australia.

I called a salesman a few days ago and asked about the turbo lag issue. He admitted the newer 08's do have a lag problem from the new program. He also said early 08's had no lag. BMW is working on this problem and should have a fix in 2-3 months.
I also asked about HP fuel pump problems, he said that problem has been taken care of. I DON'T THINK SO. But it is less of a problem. In time maybe they will SOLVE the problems. Personally I won't buy a 135i UNTIL this lag issue is solved 100%. As for the HP fuel pump problems, I just HOPE I don't get a bad one, but warranty will take care of that. Just hope I don't need 2 or 3 replaced like I have read happens. |

I will also wait until they fix the lag under 3,000rpm's. I am saving up to get an 09 next spring. I hope its back to normal by then. I have no intentions on modding, just want it to be the way they were in March 08 when they came out. |

I just want the car that I thought I was ordering--what I have is NOT what I test drove. The lag wasn't that noticeable to me until I drove a buddy's 2007 335--which had no lag at all--and then got back in my car and could not believe the difference below 3K RPM..... Now I am at the point where modding seems almost required--because the car is not functioning at all like it was advertised....very frustrating....

If you are getting in a manual I don't think it is that big of a deal. it’s not really what I wouldn't call turbo lag. The boost is building up slower. It doesn’t kick in like traditional turbo lag. I feel the difference under 2200-2400 RMPs. I have change my driving habits a little from a cold stop and I don’t notice it any more (engage at 1000-1200 RPM and a heavier foot). I spend so little time under 2200 it is a non issue for me.
It may be a little more annoying for the step owners and light footed drivers. Note : from my observations (butt dyno, no boost gage) . it is more than RPMs it also has to do with the throttle too. The lighter I am on the gas pedal the more I notice the issues. (up to 3000 rpms) . the heavier footed I am the less I notice it ( only noticeably under 2200-2400) .

Somewhere in the midwest several bridges are currently under repair. Homeless trolls spotted in the vicinity. Approach with extreme caution and definitely DO NOT FEED THEM.

Yea, I still feel like these guys are talking about a car MUCH different than the one I own. My 135i runs so smooth I'm not sure I could ask BMW for software different from what I have. Of course, I would ask for more hp/tq but that's different. I would love to ride in one of the allegedly laggy cars.

When a went to a dealer last week I also talked to a salesman and he also said the first 135i's back in march had no lag. The new ones do. He said BMW is working on a fix now. I see no reason not to believe an honest salesman. ???

I agree, but most are BS artist, and they only tell you what you want to hear in most cases.
