Never been to Lebanon but as a native NY'er who speds time in Manhattan and was a US Navy sailor whos been to many great cities all over the world I would find Beirut hard to qualify for the top spot. Personally, I wouldnt care to visit a place where Hezbullah and other militant fanatics are everywhere. But its cool you like it. |

A couple days ago, i was trying to find parking at my beach house in Newport, CA, when this tool wearing a pink polo shirt with his collar up, driving a convertible E46 M3 with a Bentley license plate frame came up next to me, glared at me, chuckled and revved his stock M3 and cut me off and drove away.
My girlfriend was in my car, and she just said "what a tool". I couldn't agree more. |

Me: 128i Him: I know my bimmers and that's not a US car. Had to get Euro Delivery, huh. Me: No, bought it CPO earlier this year. Aren't many around though. Him: Yeah, whoever had it before you musta bought it overseas in Europe or something cause they don't make those here. ('click' went the gas pump) Me: OK, gotta roll Him: Good luck finding parts for that thing! Alrighty then!

Hahahaha, funny experiences.
I must admit, up until a week ago I never hear of a 1 series. It wasn't until I stumbled across what appeared to be a pretty good deal on one and started investigating it. I've always like BMWs and thought it was a good looking car but knew by the model numbers it was worth a look given I knew what the "35" and the "1" mean't. Since I was trying to talking my wife out of another Mini...perfect! So my wife..."isn't that even lower than the 3" me..."no honey, the 1 means it's smaller, the 35 means it's got power" wife..."oh...how's that work?" me.."smaller=weighs less, twin turbos=faster, put the two together..." wife.."faster than the G?" (we have a G37s) me.."let's go see" Long story short...it now sits in the garage and my wife drove it a couple days ago. Wife..."that's got a lot of power, are you going to chip it?" (I had talked about the JB4) me.."don't know yet" wife.."this is your car right?" (refering to the 135) me..."yes, that was the agreement and I can do what I want to it" (she always wants chrome wheels and crap so I wanted to clarify) wife.."are you going to keep it" me..."probably" wife..."can you put a chip in my G?" |

Right after I purchased my 135i I was at Sam's Club filling up with gas one day. The attendant at the pumps came up to me and asked: "Is that a BMW prototype car? I've never seen a BMW like it." I had to explain to him about the 1 series. He had never seen one before.

Last week I had my e88 in the shop getting it's second top upder warranty and I had a e92 sedan in the driveway. My neighbor calls over to ask if I've changed cars, I tell him no, this is a loaner. His reply was that he "likes that one". Don drives a V6 Camry.

A friend showed me his very nice millennium Porsche 996 a few days ago. He could not believe the 135 has equal stock HP and 42 more ft/lbs of TQ...

My roommate is the only person that has hated on my car to this day. I Bought my 135i and 2 months later he had sold his extremely modded 350z that was super clean for a m sport 335i. He loves how it drives but says it looks weird and thinks that the 3 looks like the better sports car. He says he still likes my car but that he has to give me shit so my head doesn't get big, especially since I'm 8 years younger than him (21 to 29) lol.
From everyone else I get comments like...."Is that a 1M/New M3/Random Brand new BMW Model" I am debadged and the car is heavily modified though and I'm surprised some people even know what a 1M is let alone a 135i lol. Sometimes cocky M3 owners ask if its a 128i and if I couldn't afford the N54 and think i took off my badge to pose as a 135i...I always invite them to race me and shut them up pretty quick lol. |

I was driving around a shopping center with the windows down the other day after getting some frozen yogurt with my girlfriend and 3 kids were walking along side where I was driving. One looks behind him and taps the other two friends and they all turn around. I was only going about 5 miles per hour or less when I hear one of them go "Whoah, is that the m1?" I just revved up the engine a few times and the same kid says "NOO WAYYYY" and I drove off.
Then I remembered that I have the plate on the front of my car that reads "D-E82 135i" I couldnt help but laugh |

Oddly enough I've never gotten any comments on my 135 convertible that were negative at all. Nothing along the lines of "couldn't afford a 3-series" or anything like that.
Many people who don't know cars just assume its a 3-series until the look closely and like many of the commenst here they never heard of a 1-series. But they like it. In the past week and older lady stopped in the middle of a busy parking lot to say "nice car" and some high school cheerleaders were having a car wash and told me "your car is too nice for *us* to wash!". So now my wife says my car appeals to high school girls and old ladies. Nice. A high-level exec (who has lots of fancy cars including an M5) said he liked it and when I told him it had the same motor as the 335 he said it must be fast. But all comments I've gotten so far have been positive, at least to my face.

Today at work,
Coworker said my car, crimson red 128 was "cute". Then said my car didn't look smooth and streamlined like all the other BMW's.

I gave a jump to some guys on the roof of our parking garage trying to start up an old 'vette whose battery had died. When they first saw my car with the long hood they said, "Wow, that looks fast. Does it have a twelve cyclinder?" I said no, an inline turbo six.

Other day my neighbor across the street:
WOW, did you trade up or what?! Is that a new M3? I heard they were going to downsize it but WOW! Made me feel good, even and actually especially if they didn't know what it was.

Had a cool moment with the car in the early spring. Turned a corner into a school zone sometime after 4pm and saw high school girls up ahead. All of a sudden they started to wave & smile, i was too far for them to see who the driver was( i'm 25 ) . I high beamed them as i passed by. Made my day.
Most people are confused what the car is, ie 1m. And always ask if its new, the BMW blue colours really make the car stand out
