The Turner and ACT combo seems a good deal if you're making big power on a boosted car, or I could also see it being useful on a track car. But for any NA car that's for street use 90+% of the time, I think the stock one is just fine.

There is a touch more NVH under medium load/low rpm (borderline lugging) scenarios. Like, you need just another 100rpm or so to avoid the grumbles. This is totally splitting hairs and no reason to choose one over the other, just a small detail I noticed.

The FZZzh noise on high-rpm upshifts is gone, and there's another diesel-y sounding noise that's gone too. I really though springs were gonna be falling out of that clutch when I removed it, but it honestly was pretty intact.

TL; DR - Stock clutch and lightweight flywheel combo? Never been happier.
I suspected that the pedal effort would be reduced but very interesting to me that the chatter is about the same.

All that I read and watched on yt were folks insisting that you absolutely would NOT want to be without a sprung clutch disc when going from a dual mass fw to a single mass, as otherwise you would have no torsional dampening mechanism to keep the chatter down.

Now that I think about it, the stock clutch disc on my old E28 535is was sprung and the stock fw was single mass, which I then later went with an even lighter sm version from an earlier M30 model.

Had I known your experience, I may not have sprung (ha!) for the ACT clutch and would have just utilized the stock clutch included with my trans swap kit, as it only had 76K on it, according to the parts breaker.

I had the tuner bump up the idle, but I do not think I would be that bothered anyway if it were a bit noisier.

Cheers, my friend!

Interesting point! So, it looks like the ACT setup has the spring on the clutch, but the OE clutch (LuK PN 03064) has them in the pressure plate. My clutch has never felt more "normal".

I went from a Clutch masters FX250 to an OEM DMFW w/ F10 clutch and pressure plate back to the clutch masters setup. If I wouldn't have to buy a new flywheel, I'd pull the trans again just to swap back to the DMFW setup. I had the FX350 on a Golf R with zero regrets, in this car it's a chattery mess and I don't like it.

F10 setup for sale!

Completed my shitty butt weld beads on the driver side (I'm a weld newbie). Yes I know plastic aint gonna save those windows from random snap crackle weld pops, they were mostly there to prevent all the metal dust from cutting. Ran a flashlight behind the flare and got rid of all pinholes. Still need to finish up on the rear of the flare there. Bit of a gap. Might try to put in a sliver of some of the quarter panel I cut off. Have the passenger side clamped up; tried some beads but too much gap, I think I can adjust panel a bit to close those gaps up just even slightly more. With a copper spoon back there I should be ok. Next up, weld passenger side and grind both sides. Probably will see more pinholes show up while grinding but will bead em, and repeat. Need some planishing on some areas where the seams aren't lining up just right. So far no oil canning spots so I would say a win up to this point.

Return to 1Addicts

Just got this 128i a couple of weeks ago, as a project car. Had numerous e28s in the past--this is my second 128i/N52. Currently, the car is being detailed, from a full paint treatment (claybar to wax) to rinsing unbelievable amounts of road salt from the carpet. Also trying to sort out the hood release. Unusually, my hood refuses to stay closed!

Great to see this 1Addicts forum still very active. Activity on BRZ/FRS forum (where I hung out the last few years) was dwindling substantial.

Took it to the first of the larger Toronto cars and coffee to pop up this season.
Surprising amount of attention and Q&A about the car. Only E82 there.
People didn't even seem to notice the many many 911s lol.

Local shop installed Koni yellows last week. I did swaybar endlinks, Ferodo DS2500s, new rotors, and flushed with RBF600 last weekend. Streets of Willow this weekend.

Participated in a local BMW event. Good turnout even in the rain. M2’s, numerous M3’s including a beautiful e36, drift cars and others (R8 in the mix). The 1er got a lot of love as always…

It's a 6spd and I found a cheap high mileage bolted 3.46 (the rusty one in the first pic) to try and see if I liked the ratio. Love it. Same place around the corner had a 75k mi bolted 3.46 for the same price so I picked that one up too. Stripped, powder coated, reassembled. This is the large 210 pumpkin with a Wavetrac LSD.

Streets of Willow with SoCal Driver's Club yesterday. Got the point-by from an A90 Supra. 400 miles round trip, 22mpg average with the car fully loaded up. 175k miles, no issues. Pretty happy.

It's filler time!

Maybe 2-3 more rounds of skim coats and sanding to knock that weld seam out. Then I'll hit it with some high build primer, let it dry over night, guide coat, do some final sanding, and base and gloss.

Getting close, I'm beat today. Just have some final light sanding to get every last little crease out then lay down a few layers of high build primer.

Planning to base coat + gloss in my garage as well.

I've never done this before and it's not gonna be perfect but I do have alpine white which can only help me I think.

Dropped the exhaust, removed braces heat shields and started working on lowering transmission to fix my shifter carrier and drop prop to swap to the CF prop shaft.

Decided to continue with the N54 based build for now. Hydra has some new secret sauce turbos getting here soon so I'll probably stick with the platform until the block pops.

Knowing that I'm gonna do that, it'll probably detonate when we fire it up.

Some shots of the AutoSolutions shifter. Having gotten to try one out I had to have one. Best shifter in the game hands down and keeps the factory architecture, sorta.

Bushings with brass sleeves for the carrier, a new rod and lever, and a proper bearing connecting it. The lever and selector rod mating surface has nylon? Shims which really tighten and smooth things out there. Ron chooses to keep the rear carrier bushing stock to prevent excessive NVH.

Note the lever collar has to be pressed or hammered into the carrier. It fits that tightly.

Absolutely required dropping the trans and prop shaft some to get this in.

I will be doing this again if I change powerplants. It is as solid as I'd ever want it. Zero height reduction and 25% shorter throws. Installed it with a E39 M5 shift knob to be different. ZHP knob is 175g and the E39 knob is 165g and taller which IMO offers a better driving position. I'd love a slightly heavier E39 knob. Might do something custom in the future.
