I had a feeling with that much power you would be spinning through second gear which would impact your overall time. As stated the car still has much left in it so I cant wait to see where it ends up.

Good to see people out there having a go. The car has the trap speed to run a mid-high 11 easily enough. The problem is on a Wednesday you only ever get 3-4 passes
When Kenny is keen to go out I'll bring my beatle along for a baseline run. |

Hi guys,
Comparing autos to manuals is almost pointless. In 1st and 2nd gear, a high powered car has no benefit over one with lower power. It is traction limited so goes no fast tha a car with 50kw less. But the big difference here is that the manual has to get off the gas at the 60 foot mark to change gears, so sits at 50kph for 0.5 seconds waiting to accelerate in 2nd where the auto continues to accelerate, so the auto is ahead. Bt then the high powered manual will quickly catch up on speed, but is behind on distance. As you get into the high gears you stay in gear for longer, so speed the higher powered car has more speed and catches the lower powered auto and overtake in the last 50m going 6mph quicker. This is the reason why autos are quicker on this platform. You all know this. I was very satisfied with Dales driving (well done mate!!), and was expecting this result. We have some plans to address this. Hopefully next outing we will have drag tyres and launch control to get out of the box better and not have to back off the throttle to control wheels spin if the tyres are good enough. We also will be enabling flat shift. So the driver will be able to put the clutch in without taking his foot off the throttle and the Procede will cut the ignition to lower the revs, but the turbo will stay at full speed meaning full boost instantly in the next gear... Can be hard on clutches if not setup right but easy on the box. If the tyres work out well enough, I say this car will do 11.5 at 125. A 1.6 60 foot will get the 11.5. The flat shift will get an extra 2 mph as the boost will be at 20psi for an extra 1-2 seconds of the run. If this was achieved it would be well within the ball park of the world record n54s from the USA. Adrian |

Btw, I'm really impressed with the technology in the Procede that allows you to keep the foot on the throttle when the clutch is in, very nice for the manual guys! I think that will change the whole game! Anyways, keep us in the loop with any new time-slips, very keen to see what these RB's can do. |

The big advantage of the auto is not so much the faster shifts. It is the fact that even while the gearbox is shifting the torque converter is still accelerating the car. The throttle never closes and the turbos never slow down. With turbo engines so much more than na, you want to keep the turbo spinning at full flow all the time. If they slow down it takes time to spool them up. The best way to slow them down is to close the throttle which shuts down the exhaust flow driving them and creates a huge restriction to the cold side outlet which slows then really quickly. BOVs help but not much. It typically takes about half a second to get back to full boost after the throttle is lifted for he change even with a fast change. This is half a second the auto is still accelerating when the manual is not..... Times 3 for each change.
Flat shift comes a long way to addressing this. The throttle does not close but ignition is cut. The result is that the exhaust flow is not reduced as much as air is still going through the engine and ther is no restriction on the cold side. BOV does not open. Does not slow turbo as rapidly and when the ignition is returned you hit full boost much quicker as turbo is spinning much quicker. Still not as good as auto, but if you do a quick change it is close. |

I love my AT especially when you can feel that torque through your fingers while holding the wheel between 2nd to 3rd gear. I get that warm fuzzy feeling everytime it happens.

Well had a less than impressive night at the track... My meth was not fully working and was cutting out in 3rd gear. So basically at half track I was only hitting maybe 10-12psi. Was screwing my trap speeds!
Best run of the night was my last: 12.370 @ 112.85mph 60ft 1.874 There was so much more to be had but I didn't take my laptop so couldn't adjust anything. Think I had meth additive set too high. My 60ft's were quite good most of the night in the 1.8-1.9 range. The new tyres are really great! Not one hint of wheel spin. I will let Micha3l post about his times as he stayed a little longer and managed to do a great time good enough for the top spot on the ladder! |

That's awesome Richard but shame the meth was playing up though. What additive and mix were you running? That's some great trap speeds too, surprised you don't have an LSD!
I'd love to know what Michael got. I think he cracked the 11s now that he's FBO + LSD + meth. Anyone get any runs on video? |

Michael doesn't have a FMIC like you guys though... As for 11's... will let him post, not sure if he bettered his time after I left!
Yeah my 60ft's were good, no LSD for me. Was just the tyres. Was launching in 1st too. No video was taken it was just Michael and myself with no wingmen. [edit] And my meth additive was 45. Think I should have just stuck with 35 or 40... Last edited by BBK; 08-31-2011 at 06:44 AM.. |

That's right Michael doesn't have a FMIC. That means your car and Michaels are identical in mods?
It sounds like he posted some impressive times. Your 60ft's are as good as it gets without LSD, nice work. How were you launching the car? If your meth was working your times would have been a lot better but 12.3 is still really fast! |

Yeah we are identical, except for his LSD.
Launching in 1st, only revving to about 1700rpm though, I kept buggering it up and not revving higher. Felt really good in 1st and 2nd, but once 3rd hit it was dead :-( |

Wow 12 seconds flat. I think you've earn't yourself a cigar with that time Michael.
12.3 is excellent Richard. I went to the track tonight and managed three passes at 12.5 with traps of 113mph but what I was most happy about was my 60' time of 1.96 for this heavy tank. Will post slips tomorrow. I think I have a .2-.3 disadvantage with the weight compared to a coupe but the advantage of cruising topless in the summer. |

I'm sure we can still call it 11.999... haha nah, you'll get there next session without a doubt!
Good work gentleman. Random ps: anyone attend WSID on 24/8? That street driven Evo I talked about earlier in this thread ran a 10 flat with a broken bottom end 3/4 into the run - and he has no cage, lol. edit: Edwin, let us know next time you head down. We'll gather up the gents to come and support you / race as well. |
