After having it for about a month I would have to say that my general, "cheapness" would fix my petty concerns with the car but there are a couple of things that make me utter a mild sigh..

1.. I'm 6'-2" and no matter what, I can't rest my arms on the center console cover and door and get a comfortable hold on the wheel at the same time. The console needs to be a few inches longer..

2. A agree with the A/C and vent design.. True, we in the Northwest only use it for two weeks out of the year but still, it seems to cool adjacent cars at stoplights better than mine.

3. The Stereo… It’s not bad as OEM but the vehicle build is so tight that aftermarket will be very difficult as I love to DIY.. Never had a problem with free interior air flow until I met my new car. I look forward to our first argument...

4. With the automatic transmission, first gear seems to be a crap shoot. It either goes to 1.5K or 2.5K before deciding on second gear. Not sure why but it sure adds character at stop lights. I hope this corrects itself..

5. I have to agree with the run flats…. Not having a spare, I’m sure that I will thank them after the rogue nail or such but I would much rather have a spare and some really good tires to throw it into a corner..

That being said, these are minor problems and could be easily fixed by throwing some money at it.. But overall, I think that this car is amazing and love having it as a daily driver.

On the other side, these are my favorite things about my 1..

1. As it breaks in, it just gets better.. Every damn day… It’s amazing and a blast to throw into a corner....

2. On this forum, I found the answer to my brake dust.. I tried Armor All Wheel Protectant after cleaning and claying the wheels.. It’s amazing.. Haven’t had problems since...

3. The sound it makes when it starts…. I always make sure that the stereo is down. There is nothing more beautiful than an I-6 coming to life.. turbo or NA…

4. The fit and finish of everything.. Interior and exterior.. It puts everything else I have owned to shame.. I spent more than a few minutes tonight, just “studying” the engine after replacing the kidney grilles, just admiring the incredible engineering. Jesus...

5. The leather smells fucking great inside.. Almost as good as the wonderful German Girl that introduced me to BMW a long time ago.. *sigh*

Overall, I am loving my 2010 125i coupe after 2 months of ownership, but, some first world problems I would like to share. Compared to world peace, hunger or poverty, I freely acknowledge I am being picky....

1. Traction (on 225/17 run flats) is easily upset by minor bumps that my Golf GTI took in its stride (also on 225/17, but non R/F) . Also, the 125i traction control seems to intervene too late once the tyres have re-gained grip.
2. The MT shift is great at times (once warm), but prone to notchy 3/4/5 shifts. Will a CDV bypass/ replacement and/ or SSK help?
3. The side window switches in the door trims are set a couple of inches too far back for me to comfortably reach.
4. It's black (BSM), so it shows up every bit of dust after 1 rain shower and the slightest of scratches. Then again, I was warned.
5. The gong on start up. My routine is to start the engine as soon as I am seated to give it some time to idle, while I put on seat belt, adjust radio etc before I set off. Could BMW at least wait until I attempt to drive off without belting up before giving me the gong?
6. yeah, the brake dust, but no worse than my previous VW or Audi.
7. The auto wipers are not as sensitive as VW's in light rain/ drizzle. I have to give the wiper switch some manual flicks to supplement the auto intermittent wipes. However, it improves when rain is steady or heavy.

Then again, as Deutsche-Broke has said, the exhaust note on start-up is magic

ps: as a first time BMW owner, where do I find the "wonderful German Girl" to introduce me to BMW? I unfortunately missed her during my formative years

Guess you're on the wrong side too, just like the gas tank. Just kidding. =P

I think most if not all american and japanese cars have them on driver's side.

not reliable would be my vote. I am thinking of selling my car for the only fact that I am afraid to go anywhere outside 30 minutes from home. LPFS went out, now its the fuel pump, window regulator, etc. The most fun I've had in a car to date, but never had I owned a car before this one that made me more worried.

I have only 2 rear trunk net mounting hooks from the factory, not all 4 to allow me to install a cargo net

My window regulator went out a month ago too lol. Lots of fun isn't it? My turbo seals for the RHD turbo just took a dump too. About to buy Stage 1 Vargas with upgraded thrust option and just replace everything that's stock on this car so I don't have any more issues.

^^+1 !!! That is my biggest complaint too. a 53L tank just doesn't cut it with an engine that can drink fuel as fast as our cars have.

When I drive my e39 535iA V8, I love that fuel tank holds 68L of fuel. It makes it seem that I can go almost twice as far on one tank vs my 135i. Funny thing is I get better fuel economy with that V8 that I do with my N54! lol

++++1! use this stuff, and it's as simple as wiping the rims with a wet papertowel -- or, hose off the rims and the dust just rolls off -- great product!

Thanks for the tips. I've been meaning to ask you guys what you use on your wheels. I'm going to pick some up.

Tank size, however, is a different problem.

The only other "dislike" I've noticed now that it's summer... the A/C seems to be kinda weak.
Have you got it checked for leaks by your dealership? I had weak A/C too.
Have them check it- they will inject dye in your system, and inspect for leaks a week later. They found a leaking evaporator in my 2011 135i. They had to dismantle the dashboard completely to get at it. Costs in labor + parts + taxes = $3600CAD (covered under base warranty).

Seat Comfort

Driver's seat bottom. Can't get comfortable, left thigh bolster intrudes on my left thigh, like the whole seat's canted 5-10 degrees to the right. Had the same problem in my Golf R & Cayman S, might be a recent German car thing, never noticed it in my Z3 M coupe or earlier BMWs.

Least favorite aspects

As 135i vert owner my least favorite aspects are:
1. Cowl shake. Much more than I expected or my Audi had. Even more than a recent model Mustang
2. General ride. I have M Sport package and general ride is harsher over pavement than expected.
3. Brake dust. Ridiculous.

The last one has fixes but the first two do not really. And the combination cowl shake+suspension+rear drive makes for a twitching/shaking experience under hard acceleration around a corner that has pavement transitions/cracks (which means about every intersection in Michigan.)

Love the car on smooth roads and many other wonderful aspects like the fabulous engine and the slick shifting auto. But those are diminished in real world experience accelerating around a typical intersection corner.

The HPFP along with the injectors. I've been through 2 sets of all 6 injectors and eversince my first HPFP swap it just hasn't been the same since day 1: ( I don't need to go on about this because I'm sure plenty of people have already brought this up.
I'm 6 feet tall and getting comfy driving a stick while driving in a "spirited" fashion is impossible. Hopefully driving school will help me out some how or way.
Also, the windshield wipers being 50 bux for 1 is outrageous, talk about being ripped off.
