Hi Crex,

Suspension:
- Well, in general I would say that the best option is to go to a very good aftermarket tuner, who knows a lot of BMW's. Those specialists know exactly how the car can feel and ride, with a better suspension. In my situation I went to Ac Schnitzer. Absolutely fantastic suspension. The best mod of this car.

This is a short movie between AC Schnitzer and BMW Performance suspension.

Performance kit:
- Yes, a lot of talking going around, not seen any power performance yet for the .35i engine yet. I don't know when it comes.

Nice video but I have no idea what those germans concluded..

Just spoke to my dealer here in New Zealand, he says the kit has been delayed until October due to an issue with the new water cooler in left-hand-drive cars (sucks for us with RHD, they've delayed it for everyone!).

However the parts manager did mention that it could well be putting out a fair bit more power than stated, as quite a few of us have assumed/hoped.

He guessed around NZ$2500 for the kit and install (which is about US$1600)including a bit of discount for being early to order.

I'm with you on that one. A well engineered power package warranted by BMW for 1600 would be a winner in my book. Its a little bit more than the sport package on the 1er.

I have a feeling the $1600 would be parts only...much like buying the performance suspension or exhaust. The prices do not include install. With the suspension taking 8 hours of labor, the power kit with new radiator, piping, etc will probably be at least that much time in labor. Probably looking at an additional $800 for install if not more. All just my guesses but I don't see it being $1600 installed. Regardless, I eagerly await release and official pricing.

I would be pleasantly shocked if the kit + install was $1600. You can barely do a BMW rear diffuser for that.

Son of a biscuit I was just about to pull the trigger on some new wheels and an exhaust, but this takes priority. I hope we get a concrete schedule soon here in the U.S.

Well I sure hope it's here before October. I've got new summer wheels coming and I'd be rather miffed if this kit doesn't actually show up at dealers until winter comes and I have the snows back on.

who cares when it gets here? this kit is so overpriced! for $1600, you can get a DCI (aFe) and a good cat back and produce like 50+hp, and 40+ lb torque

I dont think it matters how much it cost to some people. The kicker is that it has gone through long-term bmw testing and passed.

Plus it doesn't void the warranty or the car's possibility for CPO status if you ever decide to trade in.

And for $15,000 you could get a WRX and build it into a car that would destroy any $40,000 135 on this board. But some people prefer design and engineering.

I'd be willing to pay the premium for a warrantied, BMW-approved upgrade...even if performance doesn't match 3rd party competition. It's a daily driver and touring car for me, I need reliability and piece of mind just as much as I want performance. I'm sold and will have a certified BMW independent to the install.

First concrete infos from Germany:

1) Price incl. VAT + install: 1865,50€ (roundabout 2650 USD); NB: this is already somewhat lower than the official price (individually negotiated price with dealer)

2) Performance: The well-reknown German car magazine "sport auto" has just tested it in their latest issue (August 2009 / out today). Result: Slightly faster acceleration from 0-100 km/h (0,3 sec. faster than the stock 335i), but even slower on the track (small Hockenheimring course). The magazine was rather underwhelmed.

that's probably too high for me

Well said Zed

I'm very interested in the power kit - I like how BMW are adding significant additional engine cooling as part of the process. I respect the BMW engineers and if they feel the long term survival of my engine when re-mapped needs that extra heat sink - I believe 'em.

Waiting for Dan to publish prices.......
