i fucking love the way the E82 looks....i was in love from the first time i saw one in 2008 and i still find myself appreciating all the weird curves, contours, dippy bits, and bulges. I think it's just a very athletic, artistic, and bold design. life is too sort to drive something boring! |

the timeline isn't perfect though. my lease ends in September/October 2015. The M2 initial deliveries at the end of 2015. ugh. |

I'll wait till the M2 with competition comes out a couple years after the initial release... and that car would probably be in addition to my 1er, not a replacement.

You can always extend your lease a few months I believe, and they definitely work with you and give you extensions I believe when you have a new car ordered so you can wait for it. Unfortunately, when priced out, I'm guessing it'll run me $65k and the increased performance may be complete overkill as a daily driver compared to buying out my current car's lease for $30k and maybe just doing a lil suspension/bushing work and/or going Dinan Stage 2 (or 3). Also keeping my eye on that 2015 TTS and ultimate TTRS as well as I really dig their innovative and zen-like interiors compared to the direction BMW is going, as much as I love the ipad smashed through the dash "integrated" look. You can always sublease my car if you need to and go to the dark side of DCT. =P |

Besides, my beloved car is smart enough to know that if she takes a coolant dump on me, she only seals her fate that she will be dumped and thus she will be the one ultimately harmed in this scenario. But, if she has no mechanical issues, and stays young and beautiful and keeps me happy without getting all naggy and boring, then I will stay with her. And then she wins...at least for a little while longer until I ultimately dump her for her newer, hotter, younger sister. =) |

I spoke to my dealer last night....he will put me 1st on the list if I want. Might put a refundable deposit in just in case I dig it... I doubt I will buy out my 135is after my 2 year lease mainly because it will have around 45-50k miles on it and I don't want to pay $31k for a car with that many miles on it. the M2 and M3 are first on the list of 'new' cars. The 1M is still in the hunt although frankly it's a bit of a ripoff on the used market. |

In all seriousness, I'm quite torn. There's not enough info yet. I firmly believe that the E82 was the last of the "analog" BMWs, and I'm not sure if I'm willing to get a car with "active" sound and electric steering. I guess I'll have to just wait and see. I don't have a long commute, and my residual is only $25k, so my car will be well worth buying out of the lease, but if the M2 is truly incredible, I dunno...

IEDEI - I agree, probably not worth buying yours out with that residual and those miles, plus the insane driving behavior of the previous owner. =P But, if you had a car on order I believe they essentially just extend your lease as is, and you go month to month until the new one arrives, so think you'd be fine. And Worra, I'm with you, not enough info at all at this point, too many unknowns and hard to justify (in my mind) spending an additional $30-$35k on top of what my residual will be, unless it absolutely blows me away. My car only has 5400 miles now after a year (turns one on May 3). Part of me has been contemplating getting a Dinan Stage 2 to boost the power numbers to 350 hp, and 401 ft-lb, as a cheap $1999 solution as opposed to dropping serious money on an M2. I plan to drive the M4 whenever and imagine the M2 should drive somewhat similarly, just on a smaller and scaled down version. So, if I don't like that, I probably won't like the M2. For now, I plan to enjoy the hell out of mine, but will be keeping my eye on all the fun spy shots, etc. moving forward. Plus we need to make bets as to which comes first - official unveiling of the M2...or IEDEI and perhaps Chunner getting banned from the 2addicts site. |

I drove the 435i last week. This isn't a review of that test drive, but I will say that I loved the car, but noticed it didn't have the same "soul" or engagement of the 1-series. Before I invest too much time agonizing over the M2, I need to drive the M235i and see how much of the good parts of the 1-series driving experience carry over to the 2-series, what has been improved, and what aspects that are essential to my daily driving experience are missing. It may turn out that the M2 is both a bit too numb and too much of a brute for what I'm looking for in a daily driver.

2 series sketches from questionable geographical origin. Going back to M3 after M235. Going to 4 series after 2. Where's all the enthusiasm?

If I had ordered a M235i I'd be canceling it right now. Those with one I'd bet are having some buyers remorse.

I would LOVE to hear your opinions though if you go ahead and get the stage 2 as I've spoken to RickMSport about this at length and wish they could put it on for a test drive so we can FEEL it before making a decision. Hmm. I'd probably pass on the exhaust if I were you cause the PE is sooooo good, hard to imagine theirs sounding better, but I don't know enough about it to know what performance gains it may offer. |
