Problem with the 335 exhaust is it's just a single pipe on each side and has a weird cutout in the bumper/diffuser. Would look amazing if it were dual with an identical set on the right side. Nice and symmetrical. Would prefer that to how they do the M exhausts that are dual but in the middle.

my biggest dislikes after 2 weeks of ownership are MAINLY: the interior ergonomics are quite sketchy. The window switch is awkwardly located, the seat belt mount is way too far back, the arm rest is cheap and flimsy...the cupholders are terrible, the vents don't move properly, the door panel storage is weird, etc...etc...etc.
the interior is an ergonomics nightmare after coming from driving Audis. Audi is way ahead of the game here. THAT being said....i can easily overlook all of these small issues, as the car itself is totally WICKED! |

No practical cup holders!! The 2 we get are too small and the one big odd one on the right of the shifter is too big.
The RFTs! This car rides harder than my mkvi GTI slammed on coilovers. The lack of room for passengers in the back. Last edited by ..; 10-05-2013 at 11:09 AM.. |

stereo
Yea i dislike not being able to read the stereo while i have my sunglasses on. The stereo ergonomics are terrible. Why is the USB and aux jack under the arm rest and not under the head unit? After buying the 95$ ( because a regular store bought aux cable sounds terrible) Y cable from BMW, i felt not only ripped off but confused as to why they didn't make the cable longer. My phone barley clears the arm rest and causes me to look down to change tracks instead of looking forward like if the connection where under the head unit, or at least the Y cable was a little longer. And yea the cup holders are not very useful, and if you have a wide, or tall cup, either wont fit or make using the manual shift difficult. Any one install a aftermarket stereo that maintains all the steering wheel controls?

Very happy with the car, but I'm annoyed by:
Loud HVAC fan, even at low settings. I want to hear that engine and transmission symphony as clearly as possible.
Substantial difference in throttle/clutch relationship when AC compressor is off vs. on. Staggered tire setup resulting in too much understeer - (this will change when the current tires wear out and I go "square"). Buffeting in right ear when both windows are completely rolled down (I roll up the right window about 1/3 to eliminate the buffeting). Right ear receives more outside sound when the sunroof is open compared to the left ear (the cockpit is so small that the left side of the head is beneath the roof and the right is open to the air in this situation). This bothers me more the longer the drive time. I'm a sound mixer so the sound environment is important to me. (And that's why I love the straight six soundtrack). Sport seats are not perforated! Butt and back sweat galore in warm to mild weather, even if AC is on and windows are up. Using towel on seat cushion til I pony up for custom sheepskins. No mechanical limited slip (Quaife) available from the factory. I'm going to have to spend around $3k to get one made. I think they are essential to getting the most enjoyment out of a RWD performance car. No US option to order a 130i - a 3.0 N52 with DISA intake. I'm going to have to create this myself. Equal length header not available through factory. Supersprint to the rescue. My last sporting car was a Mazda RX-8. Other than high interior temps due to the hot rotary exhaust being routed too close the body (meaning that AC had to be used from mid 60's outdoor temps on up), the car was essentially optimally realized of the box. There wasn't anything to be done to make the car better. The 1-series is very good as delivered but has room to be improved after delivery. Again, I love the car. I just need to make it better and I'm not into "modding". I'd rather pay the manufacturer a little more and have them get it right. Since this is a second car for me I'm fortunate that I can take time to get the car where I want it over time. I'm only driving it about 7-10k per year, maybe less. I don't use it for work so every time I get behind the wheel it's just for the fun of it. Last edited by 2tonik; 10-13-2013 at 08:24 AM.. |

Now that I've owned the car for a week, I think I can chime in here. Again, I absolutely love the car, this is just nitpick-y stuff. If any of this was actually a huge deal to me..I wouldn't have bought the car.
1: The door pulls - its quite hard to get the proper amount of leverage to shut the door, especially in tight parking situations (like my garage) 2: The sun visors - These have to be the cheapest pieces of crap available. I think the only upside is that they are so small that moving them around while driving doesn't require me to move my head much. 3: The rear "diffusor" - I put that in quotes because this thing isn't diffusing jack. I'm convinced that BMW purposefully kept this thing on there so they could upsell me to the $1200 CF one 4: The stock ride height - I'm not one for stanced or slammed cars, but including the BMW performance springs for a slightly lower ride height would have been nice. 5: The audio - I spent the extra money on the HK audio and while I don't regret it, I still was hoping for more. The "premium" sound in my E90 was much better. There's no mid-range adjustment, so getting the mids to sound right has been a royal pain...still working on this (at least there's an EQ) 6: The likelihood of getting a speeding ticket - Ok so this isn't really a "dislike", the car is just so fast and torque-y that I'm having quite a bit of trouble driving at the speed limit, there's just too much fun to be had!

jesus christ ladies. Some of you bought the wrong car! Biggest issue with the 1 series: trying not to get ahead of everyone everytime the light turns green. This car has a serious issue with outpacing people.... ugh. /rant

#1: Sure, its a German car, almost every German car I've owned has sucked in the cupholder department #2: I actually like these a lot #3: BMW doesn't do that except on actual M cars
