Christmas came a couple of weeks late today …. had BMW Performance springs and Bilstein B8 dampers installed + a bigger bore CDV.

First impressions are positive, albeit in city traffic so far. Suspension feels more tightly controlled yet still compliant so on the M4, Concord & Ryde Roads, for those who know Sydney. Only on the horrible concrete slab sections of Parramatta Rd at Auburn was the ride less than comfortable. Drop is less than I expected, (~20mm & less on the LHF) compared to stock non M-sport, but I hope will settle. I will re-measure & take photos on the weekend.

Don't forget that the BMW Performance springs are designed for normal dampers, while the Bilsteins by design add spring rate to the car, effectively lifting it.

Installed the 135i Shadowline exhaust!!!!! I love it it's marginally louder than stock until you hit 4k rpms then it screams! The pops and gurgles on deacceleration are sexy! Plus the larger black tips look so good on my jet black car! I'd post pics and vids but the "widow" is dirty and it's dark

I kept the resonator. I didn't want it loud but better to have better sound. I love the way it sounds and looks. I may delete the resonator in the future but not right now.

I put some new rims and tires on the 128 this past weekend. I went with BMW 261 M-Sport rims with Falken Ziex 612 tires, size 235/40R18 up front and 265/35R18 out back. I am loving it so far. The car looks so much more aggressive, and all the extra rubber keeps the traction control light from blinking during aggressive acceleration. By the way, please excuse how dirty the car is. It is Chicago in January you know.

Finally

Got around to installing the F30 backing plates and APEX studs.

At some point I'll get the 130i et al caliper carrier and Z4 lightweight discs, but the Swift/Koni, etc. stuff will come first.

They look good but that's a grossly oversized rear tire for an n52, i don't get much if any wheel spin with my 245's and i wanna go skinnier. I plan on running 225 squared in the future, but i'm an oversteer kind of guy

Looks hot!

Take your time with the caliper carriers, they are not easy to find for a good price. When I considered them I searched for used 330i calipers and the carriers.

Someone in classifieds here may have them

They are a bit oversized for the 128i, but I figured there wasn't much of a disadvantage with going with them. They are still lighter than the run flats that I had so I'm not really gaining unsprung mass by having them. As for understeer, it does have a bit more than the stock 205/50R17 square setup with the 262s, but not too bad at all. With the 261 wheels I put on, a staggered fitment was going to be required pretty much no matter what, so I figured if I have to go staggered why not 235/265 over the stock 215/245. I am not an expert but I thought those are similar stagger ratios so the understeer would be about the same with either one. I may be wrong on that though. I do love how the 265s look though, especially from behind, just makes the car look aggressive. Also right now with the 265s I can be pretty aggressive from a dig, and the traction control light barely blips. Now I need to add some more power to remedy that I think next on the list are DISA, headers, and an evolve tune. After that I think the 265s may be a bit more warranted

The silly thing is, I can buy re-manufactured calipers with carriers for less than the cost of new carriers, and that lower sum includes the core charge. I may just do it and return my stock carrier and the re-manufactured caliper to get the deposit back. Works out to $82.49 each from Napa auto parts versus $154.63 each for the carriers new.

Depends on what you mean by oversteer, but, consider this (approximate quote) from the late, great, Carroll Smith.

"In some ways it's a shame oversteer is just not fast. The driver may be thrilled and the crowd gets excited when the back end comes out. But every fast racecar needs some steady state understeer, to get maximum acceleration off the corner."

He's right, of course. Watch any pro road race, from NASCAR to F1. If two cars are racing close, and the back end steps out at all on the leading car on corner exit, he most likely gets passed on the next straight.

This is not to say excessive understeer is good.

Yeah but i'm not racing my car nor do i ever have the intention of doing so. I simply enjoy drifting every chance i get.

and some understeer may be faster, but certainly less fun in my opinion.

Sup-
my swift springs arrived today with my TCK camber plates and my koni yellows should arrive tomorrow.

it's snowing so i'm not ordering new wheelset from apex right now or tires from falken....

i'm doing a rear seat delete and putting sparco sprint seats with harnesses in this thing with the emulator to kill the airbag light next weekend....

they're still building the LSD with the lower final drive- and i'll probably have them install my subframe bushings then because from what i can tell they'll need to drop the subframe when they do the diff swap....

anyway-thanks for reading!
