BMW, for all their other flaws, actually puts a huge amount of effort into selling good fluids. They aren't as cheap, but when we are talking about things that are changed every 30,000 miles, it's hardly breaking the bank either. Fluid swaps are pretty much the single most important part of proper maintenance though. Will it feel better when you put in Redline? Absolutely. But it also would feel better if you put in a fresh change of stock fluid.

I don't know which is better but I put in Redline because I think it is good and it was readily available. I ordered it on-line from JEGS. I'm about due for a change and I will use redline again. I use MTL in the transmission and I probably still have a quart left of their rear end fluid. I pulled out much less than a quart, probably closer to a pint, of fluid with my vacumn pump. Frustrating process. Transmission is easy.
When I did it the first time, BMW was only selling their fluids in large quantities, much more than you need for a car (based upon their lifetime fluid theory, apparently). Is that still true? Mike Miller, writes the maintenance column for the Roundel, also recommends Red Line. I'm not aware of any data showing which is better, Red Line or BMW. If I could have found BMW at a decent price when I did my first change, I might have used it.

Redline makes great fluids. I would not hesitate at all to use them for your tranny and diff. I believe Liqui Moly and/or Castrol makes the factory fill for BMW, and Redline fluids are as good or better.

Will anyone be joining the dyno day on saturday? We'll be at the gas station meet spot around 9 and the dyno place is about 45 minutes away from there.

I'm interested too. N51 with a tune, vs A FBO N52. Anyone else going, seems legit.
Have you guys tried to open the event to some 3 series guys? |

Yeah its basically open to the tristate area, we have some e30's coming along too. I don't know if there's a limit on how many can dyno but all are welcome to hang out.

I'll def be there and dynoing. I hope other n52's get the chance as well! Def show up early, there's bound to be a few who "forgot" or choose not to dyno and will give you there spot. It always happens.

Mustang dyno. Owners and operators claim it typically read about 10% lower than a dynojet. For example, they dynod a GTR that made ~900AWHP on their dyno, that made about 1100 on a dynojet. Also, a bone stock 135i n54 made 240RWHP. A completely different 335i bone stock also made 240RHP. These are just to give a you a gauge of where my n52 stands on this dyno.
222RWHP 207RWTQ I'm very happy with the numbers. I made 225 on a Dynojet when my post cat O2 sensors were mixed up and this is a great improvement. Adding the 10% difference it equates out to roughly 240rwhp; which puts me in line with what Stig dyno'd as well as AA's recent dyno's for their new headers. For the record, most everyone(minus me) was disappointed of their numbers on this dyno. Most think it reads more like 20% wrong, but i think it's actually spot on accurate and dynojet's just read high.

different dynos in different geographies - altitude or humidity can make things wonky... right?
The way i compare dyno set 1 vs 2 - by absolutes - so (Tuned1 - Base1 ) vs( Tuned2 - Base2) that way the gains are more in line and average out to be consistent

He dyno'd earlier in the morning than i did, but the differences in temp/humidity are negligible.

I'm really thinking that intake is holding you back - it's the only other variable I can think of unless there is a hardware problem. |

You could be right. I actually found my stock box in my garage, turns out i didn't throw it out. I might toss it on tomorrow and see if i notice any changes through the week. It only takes 15 minutes so it's not too big of a deal. I just really hate how it crowds the engine bay with a ton of ugly plastic
