Wow. Amazing. Can you seriously rent a Porsche like that from Avis? I must look into that...

So, no I didn't risk it, but there were numerous other ring hire cars there, like VW siroccos and the like... besides the 911 cost me ~AU$1300 for 24 hours so you can imagine the insurance IF something went wrong on there. They had numerous 997 911's at the airport for hire, Cayennes and Panameras. My suggestion would be to ring and ask what they have and how much.. |

Things must have changed from when I did it in '06. I was told no issue, as they treated the Ring as a toll road, rather than a race track. Only thing they definitely didn't want me to do was take it outside Germany + Austria. And yeah it cost me something like AU$1,000 for 24 hours, with half being the excess kilometres.... Excess was either 2000 or 3000 Euros if I recall. I actually thought trying to go flat out on the Autobahn was more dangerous IMO!

Looks like a great way to spend a couple of days. Did your wife go with you in the taxi? My missus would be watching from the sidelines I think.
Have to get one of those stickers too!

You've done it in reverse order.
Sticker is a "Been there, done that" sort of thing IMHO, you need to purchase it at the Nurburg petrol station after you've completed your laps. There is something arousing about a woman that can drive fast... I like VBH more, especially while she giggles while going sideways... |

I waited years to get there THEN brought the sticker. One adornes both of our cars, and yes my wife loved the ride (back seat of course ). She, like me, said it was the highlight of our 4 weeks in Europe.
I am already plotting a plan for a revist, plus Maranello and Munich... maybe next year. This time I will take the 14yo son... he will be blown away I am sure. Maybe a Panamera next time too! If anyone wants more info in the ring then here is a good place to start. http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/ |

Nice! If anyone ever wants to rent a race car for the day, www.rentracecar.de is a wonderful company. They don't let you get the great stuff your first time (gt3's M3's) But you wouldn't need them anyway. Thier GTi is AWESOME. Great times.

I lapped the 'Ring 4 times without crashing!
I made it to the 'ring finally! Monday in Belgium was a public holiday and my friend was taking his Ferrari to Nürburg so he invited me along. I took my 123d and had an absolute blast. Even if I was slightly terrified at times.
The cars on display were incredible, even a brand new red Mercedes SLS AMG Gullwing! Being appropriately thrashed round the track. I wrote a blog about the experience complete with a few photos so I'll let you read all about it there. Needless to say I highly recommend the 'ring although driving on it should not be taken lightly! I was obliterated by the Ring Taxi at one point. http://urbanemusings.wordpress.com/2...nger-a-virgin/ Feel free to follow my blog as well. I'm sure I post the odd thing that might interest you car fanatics...

I looked into the Ring Taxi as well, but it seemed nigh on impossible to secure a ticket. As it turned out they weren't running the day we were there. I was planning on trying to bludge a spare seat if there was one going. Anyway, nice to (finally) see these pics John I am very jealous. |
