So what's the best estimate of the number of people with a deposit down? To me that is the more interesting question as opposed to number of cars being produced.

when/if one gets this car is highly dependent on the dealership that it is ordered from since cars are alloted to the higher sellers first... with approx 60 cars/month produced, I was told that the average dealership would get to sell one or two before production ends... I have surrendered a deposit since Oct and there is still no idea when my car will be produced...This is not a problem now in the winter, but come summer I cant say that I may not be drawn to a Cayman R if I cant get one by then.

Whatever the number of 1M's that are eventually produced, I would love to see each one issued with an official number plate. I think a lot of members of this forum would be among the first 100 produced.

Here comes another possible reason why BMW does not provide DCT option in the 1M:
The exclusion of DCT cuts a large portion of potential buyer. Many people just don't buy 1M because the lack of DCT, which means much less order for the product, this leads to less production demand on the Leipzig plant. Therefore the '6MT only' helps to solve the production capacity problem elegantly. |

That being said, if the 1m was the same price as the m3 coupe sedan and vert, I'd still choose the 1m over the m3.[/QUOTE]

I would... I chose the 135 over the M3. I have no interest in the 3 at all, even if it was discounted to a 1M price point. Just to add, im not confined due to financials, if the 1M falls through Im looking at a new GT3RS. That doesnt mean I would pay 65k for the 1M, just choose it over an M3. At 65k Id start looking at other things |

Dead serious. I have NO interest in the new m3, I'd take a 135 dct before it, I'd take a 1m before it, or a Cayman S. Hell I'd take an e30 or e46 m3 any day of the week over the new one. NO interest in it. Bigger isn't better in my book. |

If the 1M falls through, I'll get the Cayman I originally planned to get. I wouldn't be waiting for the 1M if I didn't like the 135 so much. |

I know If I wasn't in college , had my degree , good paying career I would get a used gt3/rs wouldn't even look at a 1m.

Does the X5M have a unique engine ? What about the X6M ? The new M5 ? That's right...none of them have a "unique" engine...that just isn't going to happen anymore... This car got all the ///M treatment it could, considering all factors....I am willing to bet that a test drive would change a lot of minds...

"The official word from BMWNA currently on the 1M availability is that it will be "unlimited but hard to get." We can confirm that the reason for this is due to the production capacity at the Leipzig plant, which will be building three very popular cars - X1, 1-series Coupe and Convertible, and the 1M beginning this spring. BMW Leipzig plant simply can't build hundreds of cars per day and is limited by its production capacity".
Hmm, I will not make any left field comments here. However, A: why not stop or slow down Convertible(s) production --(who ta F is ordering convertibles right about now) B: why wait till spring to start production of the 1M. Start production with in the next month --(Most of the parts come from the 3er/M3, they have tons of them) Solution in my eyes= The Leipzig plant has plenty of production capability. I must be in the minority but i will not let BMW blow smoke in my face

The 1M is not going to be my primary, secondary, or even tertiary car. I am getting it because I like it not because I need a car (I buy what I like, my garage is full and so are my storage spaces). I eventually may add the GT3RS, that depends on whether or not Viper production resumes in 2012/13. Either way whatever I purchase next year wont replace the 1M it will add to it. |

You hear this stuff all the time.... Especially if you change out cars like it's going out of style. I for one am not buying into all the Hype. I think around fall of this year will be a good time to see what BMW has in store for the 2012 1M (? if anything at all) and how "hard to get" the current 1M's will be.... I think the internet supercharges emotions and specualtions on new cars and I believe this is no different. |
