I had mine for 2 years in the past...
Drove it 30k miles. Footwell module failure ($50 fix under PUMA) Sparks / Coils due to misfire (But this is more Maintanence) ($350, did myself) Windshield washer tank leak ($60 did myself) DMTL pump failure ($75 did myself) I think all in all, $400 not bad over 2 years but remember I did almost everything myself and was lucky enough w a PUMA case on the window issue. Otherwise, this would all have been a bit over $2k

Issues appear over a period of time that develops through a few years of ownership. 28K is a short amount of time. Even for this car. I've done my maintenance religiously and have had an avalanche of issues since new. I'm at 94K now (and since I've replaced nearly every moving part) I feel confident that the next two years will be oil changes only. JMHO...

I went this weekend for a custom pro tune of my Cobb Accessport, and when he test my car on the Dyno, it showed I need to replace my low pressure fuel pump, my spark plug coils, and upgrade my fuel injectors.

Hello everyone, im new to the BMW scene, been lookin around the forum to see peoples views on this car before registering an account. Always wanted to get a 1 series and i finally am able to.
The BMW dealer couple miles from me has a CPO 2012 135i with the M Sport Pkg, going for $25k, (came back from a lease) It has 36k miles on the carfax, clean record. But on "mycarfax" it has it as 40k miles. Been sitting in the lot since June 2015. Guess the dealer put 4k miles on it since then? I also noticed on the car fax when i was looking at the repairs they had to replace water pump this past February when it had 33k. That was the only thing that stood out, besides "one tire mounted" multiple times (Sry dont know what that means) I plan on going sometime this month or maybe next month to personally check it out if its still there. I also found another one, bout 20 miles away from me but its a 128i 2012, CPO and has 7300 miles on it. 1 owner, clean carfax, records only show it went through inspections every year thats about it. No records of anything else. No pictures shown. And last, i found a new 128i at another dealer 14 miles from me, 2013 128i; premium pkg and cold weather pkg, they want 34k. I found many more but either they are not cpo or is a convertible (Just lookin for hardtop ones and ....auto....sry i think im done with manual now) Recommendations? Thanks for your time if you read through this! |

No evidence of reliability here
I have had my 135i cabriolet since it was new in 2009. Here are the engine issues to date:
Factory Warranty 1.High pressure pump, 10,000 Km (6,635 miles) 2. Program control units for High pressure pump 3. replaced 3 injectors, 37000 Km (23,000 miles) Extended warranty 1. replaced water pump 58,000 Km (36,000 miles) 2. oil filter housing cracked, replace along with gasket 3. replaced all 6 injectors, 74,778 km (46,400 miles). Many non engine items repaired under the 2 warranties including: -seat bolster motor fried causing smoke throughout the cabin -rear window defroster wires deterioration -side mirror cracked battery cables -wrong size seat leather -and lots of other little bits. Finally, out of any warranty, the AT transmission failed requiring a new selector assembly (on order from Germany). So that is were I stand as of 85,000 Km (53,000 miles). I am out of all warranties and issues look like they will continue. Conclusion: You take your chances with a 135i, it is not a reliable car but it is just a joy to drive and it moves dam fast. |

So I'm picking up a used 135is with ~35kmi and 6 mo left of factory warranty. What should I look for when I inspect it and test drive it? I have the BMW service record (no major repairs or anything, mostly just routine maintenance)?
Your input much appreciated!! Atle |

Picked my 2012 N55 up in June with 40k. Took it to an Indy shop who said "it's in really good shape. No problems."
Just brought it in for brake fluid service, and he told me I had leaks in oil filter gasket, oil pan gasket, and one other. "Look like they've been that way a long time." I inquired, then, how did he miss them last summer??? He said he couldn't see through the plastic covers, and had to use a mirror and flashlight this time. So - make sure the covers are removed and really give it a look! Also - radiator fluid reservoir. Good luck and Enjoy! I love the PPK, PE and interior trim on the "is."

Just picked up a 2009 135i space gray automatic with 65000 miles 9 days ago. My 1st pre-own vehicle purchase. Had to get the auto because I am giving it to my daughter in one year when she turns 16. RRT racing in Sterling, Virginia did a full diagnostic and the car came back as a winner. The only problem is low pressure fuel pump sensor is cracked ( I was told very common). Getting it taken care of next week.
The car was a one female owner for 6 1/2 years, purchased not leased. I plan to maintain it religiously like all my other vehicles. In the last 20 years, I've had 2 Porsches, 3 AMGs, 3Ms, and RR and they have never given me one bit of problem, except RR. Btw, Range Rover was a pile of crap. Take care of them and they will take care of u. My philosophy tells me that when buying used, always get the one that is purchased and not leased. They seem to care more. I've only purchased and I took great care of them, since my intention at the time was to keep it forever. Just my $0.02. |

I still have all the cars except the 2004 cayenne turbo and obviously the 1999 Range Rover.

Picking up a 2013 135 coupe tomorrow with 38k miles on the odo. The car seems to have sat for a while since it had some gaskets replaced, heater core and the battery charged last week all under warranty. The car looks great inside out just needs a good detail. It's got about 6 months worth of warranty left, I know it can be expensive but man I just love the darn thing.

I've had my 2008 135i for two years, has about 35k miles, and today am having the evaporator replaced due to a leak, losing all freon (or whatever is in there). $2200. I'm not happy!

My experience has been mixed. Bought it CPO with 21k miles on it and have had plenty of little issues. One thing that I got burned on was "No seals or Latches are covered under the CPO"..recently at 45k miles I had the big rear seal on the back of the convertible top snap in half..over 500 out of pocket, plus the trunk latch sending false "trunk open" messages..several hundred more out of pocket. The DCT seals are also begining to leak a bit.
Expect to spend money on your car as it ages, and BMW's generally age poorly. For all the german engineering involved, they can't seem to make a car that doesn't have its issues. This is not a Toyota...the last few i had ran for ever. In closing, though a bit off topic, I always tell people who are buying a shiny new/cpo higher end BMW the following.... "Glad you like that fat 80k car you're going to buy..have you tried their 30k something 3 or x1 series??..because dealer loaners is what you'll be driving alot of the time while your 80k ride is in the shop...sometimes most of the time"

I bought the car as a lease return at around 22k miles, I'm now at 33k 2 years later and I've had to replace the coolant expansion reservoir, hpfp, and I'm beginning to see heat related interior trim issues. The HPFP was, thankfully, covered. I'm really hoping this isn't a harbinger of things to come.

I've had my 2009 135i for 7 years now. I had to replace the HPFP twice, the electric water pump, all 6 fuel injectors, the turbos need replacing due to wastage rattle and low boost pressure (30FF code), the oil filter housing gasket needs to be replaced, I replaced the third brake light because it cracked and fell out and the windshield washer reservoir doesn't hold fluid.
